Airdate: Tony Robinson: WWII by Drone

Tony Robinson presents drone footage which brings Europe’s sleeping battlefields to life.

History series Tony Robinson: WWII By Drone premieres next week on SBS.

This is a six part series.

As military experts crisscross the continent to uncover long-forgotten secrets, Tony Robinson: WWII by Drone brings Europe’s sleeping battlefields to life as never before thanks to cutting-edge CGI and drone-mounted technology. It’s a six-part tribute to the reality of war, and to the brave souls who fought for our freedom.

Episode One: Battle Of The Bulge
Equipped with the latest drone mounted radar technology, conflict archaeologists set out to uncover the hidden remains of the frontline of one of World War II’s deadliest battles. The Battle of the Bulge, also known as ‘Hitler’s last gamble’, was described by Winston Churchill as ‘the greatest American battle of the war’. Fought between December 1944 and January 1945, it was Germany’s last offensive on the Western front. Nearly 20,000 US soldiers were killed in the battle, including many often-forgotten African American front-line troops.

Wednesday, 25 May at 7.35pm on SBS.

  1. You have to hand it to Tony he doesn’t give up on archaeology even when its from 80 years ago, I will be interested to see what technological gimmicks and CGI this show comes up with. I also note that Time Team have begun a new series as well, but without Tony, I watched an episode of it on You Tube recently and didn’t find it as fascinating as Tony’s 1994-2014 original, except that all the former archaeologists from the early series look a lot older.
