Renewed: 9-1-1

US police drama 9-1-1 is heading to a sixth season.

The show from creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, follows emergency responders who try to balance saving the most vulnerable and their own life problems. It stars Angela Bassett, Peter Krause and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

The pickups came as hours after FOX announced a slate for the coming season that did not include the series.

FOX Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier later told reporters that “we think we’re in pretty good shape” to bring the two shows back.

The news comes in the same week as 9-1-1: Lone Star was renewed.

9-1-1 screens locally on Seven.
