Silent Witness marks 25 seasons

To mark its 25th anniversary, Amanda Burton returns to reprise her role of Sam Ryan in brand new episodes.

Series 25 of Silent Witness will be fast-tracked by BBC First next week.

To celebrate its 25 years Amanda Burton returns to reprise her role of Sam Ryan alongside series regulars Emilia Fox and David Caves, with Genesis Lynea re-joining the cast as Simone Tyler.

Amanda Burton makes a return to series 25 and first appeared in the lead role of pathologist Sam Ryan in 1996, starring in 54 episodes before leaving in 2004.

“I am so excited to be returning to Silent Witness and stepping back into Sam Ryan’s shoes – with a difference! Audiences can look forward to plenty of twists and turns as they discover what Sam’s been doing since leaving the Lyell,” she said.

Over its 24 seasons Silent Witness has featured appearances from Idris Elba, Benedict Cumberbatch, Daisy Ridley, Nicholas Hoult, Jack Dee, Tamsin Egerton, Jason Watkins, Emily Mortimer, Jodie Comer, Martin Compston and Daniel Kaluuya.

The longest-running crime drama currently airing on TV returns with six thrilling new episodes, opening in Liverpool with an assassination attempt and Sam Ryan calling on the Lyell team with a plea for help seventeen years after leaving the Lyell.

The shooting of the Health Secretary pulls the Lyell into a world of duplicity, intrigue and betrayal. Soon Nikki starts to suspect the Sam knows more than she’s letting on. When the credibility of DNA – the bedrock of forensic science – is challenged, everything the Lyell holds dear comes under threat. Uncertain of who to trust, the team’s investigation draws them into perilous confrontations as they fight to uncover the truth and protect everything they love.

Silent Witness has been hugely successful, with average audiences of over seven million per week in the UK and has been one BBC’s iPlayer’s most-requested shows. Over 200 episodes have been produced during it’s incredible 25 year run.

10am Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from May 24 on BBC First (double episodes repeated Thursdays at 8.30pm).

  1. I have caught all of S24 yet, but it’s back up on Foxtel so will do so this week. Foxtel have also screwed up the series linking for the 10am screening, the first couple aren’t link, and when you hit one that does the silly IQ coding links converts to the first available episode S23 not continuing S25.

      1. Yeah I thought of that moments after typing the comment!! (coming off night shift and not thinking straight!) So us plebs are about due for another series.
