Neighbours: “That’s a wrap”

Neighbours cast yesterday gathered for an emotional group photo on their final day of filming.

Neighbours cast gathered for a group photo on their last day of filming yesterday.

The day included some fantastic behind the scenes access and interviews from Studio 10 you can see on their social media.

The finale made news around the world including BBC Breakfast, ITV, The Sun, The Scotsman, Radio Times, Digital Spy, Reuters, and more.

Over its 37 years the show has seen over 8800 episodes, 56 weddings and 55 deaths.

“We all knew this day was coming but until we were here in this moment when the very last scene was filmed, it was hard to express how we would all feel,” executive producer Jason Herbison said.

“Of course, it is sad and tears were shed, but we’re also enormously proud – 37 years is an incredible achievement and that should be celebrated.

“We’ve also been incredibly touched by the response from our viewers all over the world. Neighbours is more than a TV show to many people. They see us as part of the family and we feel privileged to have been invited into their homes, and I know the legacy of Neighbours will live on for many years.”

Stefan Dennis told Studio 10, “It’s a melancholy day for me.

“I sort of closed the studio door behind me on my very last scene, my very last dialogue scene and… I suddenly surprised myself by getting incredibly emotional.

“I just kept to myself and went to my dressing room… so I’m keeping a very low profile today. I think I’ll just be an absolute mess if I sort of hang around too long.”

The last episode airs 7:30pm Thursday July 28 on 10 / 10 Peach.

  1. Great to see Paul Keane on set for the last day, since he and Stefan Dennis both appeared in the first episode. David, do you happen to know the date of the filming of the first episode? I’m thinking very early 1985, given the March 18th airing, but it could have been late 1984.

  2. It’s the only show I watch religiously without missing a single episode. I think it shows a lack of foresight on the part of the networks (both here and in the UK) that it hasn’t been picked up. The quality is deserving, and as others have noted elsewhere, it’s been a brilliant training ground for so many sectors of the industry. It really is a huge shame that it’s ending. Stefan Dennis hinted in his interview that there were a couple of additional surprise returns to the cast (he mentioned a Hollywood star and a singer). He could be referring to Margot Robbie and Natalie Imbruglia, which would mean that everyone featured in the “Who’s returning?” promo will actually have returned. Then again, Margot had 37 bottles of champagne delivered to the set on Friday to commemorate 37 years of production, so that might have been her gesture, rather than a return to the set. I guess we’ll find out. Thanks to all cast and crew for 37 brilliant years! “Neighbours” will be sorely missed!

  3. So sad to see the end of this iconic show. I saw the beginning then stopped for 30 years but got back to it recently ie around 4 years ago just prior to Sonyas death. It will be interesting to see how the finale week/day plays out. For those like me who missed the cast interviews on Studio 10; heres how to youtube it; Neighbours cast say goodbye/Celebrating Neighbours; The Cast Says Goodbye/ Thats a Wrap;

  4. Great photo & story! I watched a bit of the Studio 10 interviews. Very well done. It’s so sad that it’s come to this. I’ve been watching since it started on Ch7 and then to 10 & 11. I don’t understand why someone didn’t pick it up. All this cast & crew now looking for work, and the Australian quota the channel is supposed to have is now down. It should have gone on forever. But, thanks to everyone involved in the 37 years we had!
