Stars out in force for The Twelve premiere

A multi-racial cast with serious acting chops were unveiled at the world premiere of Foxtel's new drama series.

Cast members from upcoming Foxtel drama The Twelve hit the red carpet last night as Foxtel held the world premiere of its new local drama at Alpha in Sydney.

The 10 part courtroom drama features a sprawling diverse cast across jury, prosecution, defence, police and family members.

Amongst those in attendance were Marta Dusseldorp, Kate Mulvany, Brooke Satchwell, Pallavi Sharda, Ngali Shaw, Jenni Baird, Catherine Văn-Davies, Nicholas Cassim, Louisa Mignone, Gennie Nevinson, Damien Strouthos, Susan Kennedy, Warren Lee, Coco Jack Gillies, Hamish Michael, Amy Kersey and more.

Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany and Executive Director of Television Brian Walsh welcomed guests with Walsh noting the series was the right fit to succeed Wentworth.

“We deliberated about how we could possible replace such an iconic show as Wentworth. One thing we did take from 9 incredible successful seasons, was how much our subscribers love crime and high end drama. And they certainly embraced the very nature of an ensemble piece,” said Walsh.

The Twelve Warner Bros. Television would again showcase acting talent.

“They had a vision right from the start that this would be a premium drama equal to anything that HBO could produce and once again lift the bar for Australian television drama. I’m delighted with the end result.

Producer Ian Collie from co-producers Easy Tiger told TV Tonight, “Two things appealed to me, the script in terms of the story and how multi layered it is, the complexity of the case itself. Did she or didn’t she do it? The screenwriters did such a great job in that

“But secondly, the performances. It’s a big cast with 12, actually 14 Jurors…. Kate Mulvaney, Sam Neill, Marta Dusseldorp… but all the support cast are great. Everyone’s sort of at their prime, I think. It feels authentic, it feels real, feels really engaging.”

Rising star and First Nations actor Ngali Shaw (RFDS) , who plays juror Jarrod Saunders,  very nearly upstaged seasoned stars in a Q+A with Walsh with his unbridled enthusiasm.

“I’ve met so many great actors that I’ve never seen before, great actors who are up there with my favourite actors! It’s insane to meet people like that! Sitting next to Sam Neill. I never thought I’d do that!” he said.

And the verdict on the show?

A complex whodunnit starring a knockout cast with serious acting chops. There’s a big ensemble to follow but the story kicks up a notch in episode two as the layers are slowly peeled back…

8:30pm Tuesday June 21 on FOX Showcase.
