781 complaints for UK’s Love Island

If you thought hundreds of complaints was bad, you should have seen the 2021 outcry.

Love Island UK has drawn over 781 complaints to the regulator OfCom in just 4 weeks -but that’s actually well down on 2021 when one episode drew a record 25,000 complaints.

Those complaints centered around one couple, Teddy Soares and Faye Winter, had an intense argument, with most of the complaints about Winter’s behaviour. Hands up anyone who can remember any of it?

“So far we have received a total of 781 complaints about the current season of Love Island,” an Ofcom spokesperson told Variety.

Viewers were concerned about bullying on the show, contestants’ wellbeing and mental health, certain contestants getting more screen time than others and the age gap between contestants on the dating show.

19 year old contestant Gemma Owen, whose father is former England soccer star Michael Owen, was at one point paired with 27-year-old Davide Sanclimenti -couples are expected to sleep in the same bed and partake in raunchy challenges together.

This season also features Ronan Keating’s son, Jack, 23.

“He’s got such a big heart, and he’s a real softy,” Ronan Keating has said.

“I’m a bit worried about him being in there with all of those other guys.”

“I just said to him, ‘Be yourself and have a good time. Be yourself,'” he revealed.

Earlier this year ITV issued comprehensive new Duty of Care guidelines from financial management to inclusive language and adjusting to life post-show.

Love Island UK is currently screening in Autralia on 9Now with Love Island Australia set to return later this year, filming in Spain.
