Lisa Wilkinson off to USA interviews

Project anchor pushes back return date at the desk while she records interviews in the USA.

Lisa Wilkinson is in the USA to record interview for The Project, according to media reports.

The Australian reports she headed to the US over the weekend for interviews in Los Angeles and New York, including celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred, known for her pursuit of women’s rights cases.

Wilkinson has been off air since the Logie Awards when comments around a legal case led to her absence from The Project desk. She was due to return on Thursday according to network amendments, but Georgie Tunny appeared in her place -a pre-tecorded interview with swimmer Michael Klim also screened a week ago.

Tunny is expected to continue filling in along with Sarah Harris and Rachel Corbett.

The Australian reports Wilkinson will also do live crosses from the USA but is not expected back at the desk until late August.

Meanwhile Carrie Bickmore returned to the desk last week after 3 months in the UK.

  1. Makes sense for 10 to keep her out of sight until the Logies are completely forgotten (could’ve got the same result and saved a bit of coin just moving her to Breakfast though) – if marketing have any sense they’ll keep her hidden long enough to do a tie-in for the Hunted finale.

  2. Georgie Tunny is great talent, no question. She was fantastic at doing live TV when she was on ABC News Breakfast and that experience has served her well for being ‘on the desk’ at The Project.

  3. Away until late August….Thats a long break. Great. The Project is a better show without Lisa’s agenda. Georgie is doing a great job and has fitted in so well with the rest of the team. Keep Georgie instead of Lisa please.
