Neighbours finale confirmed on 10

It's a finale week for long-running soap, with a brand new date and time for the last ever episode.

10 has confirmed the final episode of Neighbours will screen on 10 -as well as 10 Peach- and on a new date: Thursday July 28.

This brings the finale forward from the original date Monday August 1st.

It isn’t clear if this means Australia will see the final scenes ahead of the UK.

Below is the video which screened to cast and media earlier this week, which brought some to tears…

After 37 years, 8903 episodes, countless marriages, deaths, births and disasters, it’s time to say goodbye to Neighbours.

The history making final episode of Australia’s longest running drama, will be simulcast on 10 and 10 Peach on Thursday, July 28 at 7:30pm, in a gripping and emotional 90-minute finale.

Favourites from the past return to Ramsay St to celebrate with our Erinsborough locals. In a massive homecoming there will be something for everyone spanning all generations of viewers from the opening scene in 1985.

Don’t miss an unmissable final week of Neighbours, which starts Monday, July 25.

Here’s a look down memory lane, at some of our favourite Neighbours moments that made television history.

Monday, July 25 at 6:30pm on 10 Peach (90-minute episode)
Tuesday, July 26 at 6:30pm on 10 Peach (90-minute episode)
Wednesday, July 27 at 6:30pm on 10 Peach (90-minute episode)
Thursday, July 28 at 7:30pm on 10 and 10 Peach (90-minute finale)

  1. I’d like to see Jason Herrbison become producer of Home and Away. He’d bring some continuity to the show and bring some old characters back, like he did on Neighbours.

    1. I would concur that Jason Herbison has been an excellent executive producer.

As an avid viewer of Neighbours in the 1980s who subsequently stopped watching when the show ultimately lost its way, I only reconnected with the programme at the start of lockdown and, in many respects, have found Neighbours under Herbison’s stewardship to be a more socially progressive version of its original incarnation, with some of the returning characters offering familiarity.

There is clearly a cultural divide between the tastes of UK and Australian viewers. The UK audience has never really warmed to Home and Away.

  2. Not just Neighbours, but shows such as The Young Doctors and Prisoner have been a fixture of UK television schedules now for decades.

The demise of Neighbours surely brings down the curtain, not only on Australian television’s most successful soap export, but the creative genius of the 2 Regs (Grundy and Watson), with no shows remaining in production.

Footnote – From latest audience figures in the UK, Neighbours remains Channel 5’s most watched programme.

  3. Cried when Hendrix died. Outstanding acting from all concerned. Will miss Hendrix. Hope to hear of further projects for Georgie Stone. Will bel very sad and heartbreaking when show ends. History ends.

Glad to see getting 4 of 90 min farewell eps. Need boxes of tissues.

Hope Therese stays with Glen. And Callum Rebeccchi does return.

Saw The Living Room. Barry du Bois does cameo/guest role interracting with Amy outside Lassisters. Ep 8878. Scene 13.. . For those interested.

Thanks David for all your Neighbours, and other show/etc updates. Appreciated.

      1. What sort of figures does B&B rate these days David? It used to pop up in the Top 30 back when you were able to show that, but I’ve never seen it in the Top 20.

      2. Thank you very much for your reply. Much appreciated. While I get and understand what you say, I still think the heavy promotion could have waited till the final week or 2. Not this far ahead. Re a replacement; ch 10 have also been promoting the new possible shows. ie the US term of upfronts. Im not a fan of channel 10 ‘humour’. Never have been. To me, good/great humour is play on words. Mocking isnt funny.

  4. As a semi regular extra a few years ago, I gained the confidence of walking around the studio by myself between scenes. I was always amazed that this studio used to be home to a whole channel, with a multitude of shows all being made at once…. and was now home to just one show. All Neighbours, editing suites, costume dept, set after sets. Was amazing to see.Sad to see it go. I fear it will all be bulldozed and uninspiring housing will replace.

    1. Around 35-40 years ago I went on my first Young Doctors set visit at North Sydney. Enjoyed it immensely. Lunched with Alan Dale and Ros? and also Rebecca Gilling there too. I got the script of the day (still have it too), and autographs, and 1-3 pics. I went back two more times. I stood feet away from cameras as they filmed scenes. Learnt that day that one lo of 20 mins equals 1 minute of screen time. Always been a fan of behind the scenes. I actually stopped watching Neighbours shortly after Alan Dale left it. Got back into it around 4 years after promo of Sonyas death. Re YD again, I also went inside the OB van with producer to see what/how it happened. Fascinating. I quite enjoyed the Studio10 Neighbours Behind the Scenes with the actors. Doubly fascinating re wardrobe/sets and how close they really are when in storage/not in current usage., ie still on stage though.

  5. Wow! After this month Neighbours will be over. 😭 Characters I’d like to see return are Heather Schilling (Kerry Armstrong), Dee Bliss / Andrea Somers (Madeleine West), Zeke Kinski (Matthew Werkmeister) and Callum Rebecchi (Morgan Baker).
10 Peach please don’t replace it with Friends, Big Bang Theory or repeats of other US sitcoms.

  6. Although I don’t watch neighbours it’s good to see the finale episode show on the primary channel. The last time normal neighbours aired on the primary channel was back in late 2010 (that was the time when Neighbours was shunted to 11 as part of the Ten News Revolution).
Hopefully it would be great to see all the credits for the people who were involved on the show in the past 37 years. Hopefully the people being involved in the show in the past 30 odd years will sing Neighbours together before rolling credits begin.

  7. I have a few good points here.
Firstly, that’s brilliant news from 10 to air the final episode ever.
Secondly for the end credits in the final episode I’m suggesting that they should air the piano theme to give a big farewell.
Thirdly What a great tribute from network 10 its better than the loges tribute which was IMO really bad.
And lastly well done David for keeping us up to date on the end of Neighbours.

  8. After last night’s episode I’m a bit traumatised and don’t know if I want to keep watching! (I will, but you know how it is…)

  9. Thanks for the update, David.
It’s still so sad that this show is ending. I just read an interview with Ian Smith (Harold), who lamented that the Australian Govt should have bought it, and put it on ABC, and used it as training ground for all involved. Would’ve been a good idea. I’m still in denial, I still hope someone can bring it back sometime. I’ve watched since the beginning, and it’s really sad to see this happen.

  10. Wow 12 episodes in the last week is a lot. Ep 8867 last night was outstanding. I was trying to figure out how they would fit 36 episodes into what was 17 nights or airing, but is now16. Your post solves this query thanks.

  11. Wow, that’s squeezing a lot into the final week. A feast and then a famine. So cynically I would say that 10 didn’t want to give up a higher rating Monday night to the soap. That is sad.

  12. Excellent news from 10. I have two simple asks of 10 for the finale: 1) allow the full closing credits to play out and, 2) no intrusive advertising watermarks on screen during the 90 minutes please.

  13. That’s a lot of hours to watch in one week, I feel like squeezing it in on Thursday is more of a burn off than a celebration. I guess 10 don’t want to interrupt their scheduling of Hunted.
