New structure, appointments at Britbox.

BritBox will move to a two-region structure BBI North America and BBI International Markets for rest of world.

BritBox International has announced a new structure and new senior appointments to help deliver its ambitious market expansion goals.

BritBox International (BBI) will move to a two-region structure – BBI North America (covering USA and Canada) and BBI International Markets (covering Australia, South Africa, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland and future new markets).

Reemah Sakaan (pictured) said, “We are establishing the best-fit strategy, investment and organisation to align with our vision to become world leaders in British streaming.

“As the business matures, maximising the potential of existing markets, particularly growth in US and Australia, as well as a building a scalable multi-market, operating and investment model, requires a new management focus. This will enable BritBox to leverage our strength in all territories and to become a global commissioner, buyer and brand.”

The BBC and ITV joint venture now has over 2.6 million subscribers.

The new roles are:

Chief Acquisitions & Commercial Officer: Kerry Ball joins BritBox International in this newly created lead role, responsible for group content acquisition and commercial strategy across regions. She is a seasoned digital and entertainment executive who has spent 20+ years working at the intersection of content and technology in leading positions at NBC Universal, Stingray, Shine, Discovery, Struum and Aurra Studios. Ball will be based out of the London office hub.

“Britbox has made incredible progress in delivering such a high quality and authentic SVOD service over the last few years. I am incredibly excited to join the team and further our growth in both acquisition and distribution of world-class British Content,” she said.

EVP International Markets & General Manager APAC: Moira Hogan takes on the new role of EVP International Markets & General Manager APAC with overarching accountability for all international market territories, excluding North America. She will also lead on all markets within the APAC region. She previously served as Country Manager for the BritBox service in Australia.

SVP International Markets & General Manager EMEA: Neale Dennett becomes SVP International Markets & General Manager EMEA. He will partner with Moira Hogan on growth in all international markets and lead all markets in EMEA region. Neale previously held the role of New Markets Launch Director and has been instrumental in the launch of the service in Australia, South Africa and the Nordics most recently.

EVP North America & General Manager Group Marketing Services: As well as managing the USA, BritBox’s largest market, this role will oversee BritBox in Canada as well as managing the group wide teams for Creative, Media Buying, CRM and Customer Services. The appointment of this role will be subject to a future announcement.

These additions follow the hire of Diederick Santer as Chief Creative Officer and Matt Gardner as Chief Financial & Operations Officer in the last 9 months.

All report to CEO Reemah Sakaan and will join BBI’s senior leadership team located across London, New York & Sydney offices.

  1. David – you probably saw this extract in Mumbrella this morning:
“Digital subscription video-on-demand service BritBox International – a joint initiative between ITV and BBC Studios – believes distribution is important, as it looks to cement itself as the premier provider of British-specific content in an increasingly crowded Australian SVOD market.
When asked whether BritBox was looking to do partnerships deals with Australian networks – particularly with an SVOD-partnerless Seven Network – Moira Hogan, EVP international markets & general manager APAC, told Mumbrella: “Distribution is super important, but we have nothing to announce specifically with Seven.” But Hogan did say BritBox was open to explore deals with local partners.”

  2. I subscribed to the $1 for two months deal that was recently offered.

The Good – The cost – $7 per month or $70 py is reasonable
    – lots of good old programs that I may revisit (Currently watching Outnumbered, hilarious)
    – some new stuff – e.g. season 6 of Line of Duty

The Bad – range of new programs is limited (I assume because Foxtel has first pick)
    – video quality is (compared to competition) ordinary.
