Rumour: Kath & Kim stars filming in secret

Legendary comedy stars are back in front of the cameras, but details remain under wrap.

TV Tonight hears whispers the stars of Kath & Kim are currently filming a secret project in Melbourne.

Stars including Gina Riley, Jane Turner & Magda Szubanski are understood to be filming at NEP Studios in South Melbourne under a shroud of secrecy, and hopefully Glenn Robbins and Peter Rowsthorn are in on the action.

It isn’t clear if this might constitute new scripts picking up the much-loved characters in 2022.

Magda Szubanski recently told me her preference was to leave the characters in the past, but that wouldn’t rule out a nostalgic special, particularly given the Friends reunion and Hey Hey specials last year proved big drawcards.

Recently asked about revival, she told TV Week: “If I did I couldn’t possibly tell you. If I did, I’d have to kill you and your publishers and everyone else. It would be a blood bath!”

Asked whether she would take part if approached by producers, she added, “Again, I can neither confirm or deny!”

A special could be part of a 20th Anniversary celebration for the show which began on ABC in 2002, before moving to Seven.

It also isn’t clear where new content would land, given the comedy remains ever-popular on Streaming.

The original house used for filming in Patterson Lakes was recently demolished.

Producers have been contacted for comment.

  1. whatever they’re doing i hope none of the writers from their last season on channel 7 are involved. It was a real let down & just not up to the same standard of the ABC episodes. I don’t want to get my hopes too high.

  2. I’m not sure if I’d want to see this with new scripts if the house is demolished.

    Oh and David, slight typo.. started on ABC in 2002, not 2022 😉
