Celebrities have joined the Kath & Kim cast for their secret special filming this week in South Melbourne.

Following TV Tonight’s scoop yesterday on Kath & Kim now filming at NEP Studios in South Melbourne, now widely reported by media, here is further intel…

Stars such as Sonia Kruger and Celia Pacquola are understood to be amongst a parade of celebrities filming this week, but paparazzi are yet to catch any as they exit the building into black SUV’s waiting outside.

Producers also managed to get plenty of interior photos of the Patterson Lakes home, before it was demolished, for green screen use in the 20th anniversary special.

Industry sources suggest there will be a hefty price tag associated with the project, which could also be sold to British television.

An Australian broadcaster is yet to be finalised but Seven is mooted as the front runner.

  2. Interesting about the producers getting interior photos of the house before demolished to use in greenscreen for a new special. At the start of filming for every series the house was emptied of all of the owners furniture and possessions and put in storage by the Art Dept. Then they brought in and dressed the house with Kath’s furniture and dressings to team with the theme and make it look like Kath’s home. So not sure what use any photos of the interior of the house would be unless it had been in the state of being dressed by the Art Dept. The house looked really different inside without Kath’s stuff in it. Maybe the kitchen you’d get away with but even that didn’t really look like it until the Art Dept had added all the touches. The Kitchen cupboards especially.

    1. I think the idea is virtual sets with furniture / props in the foreground. It was pretty convincing in a recent Brady Bunch special by RuPaul, but I suspect it needs ‘Dream Screen’ which is not cheap. I’m only thinking out loud here…

  3. Those two “guests” names don’t impress me

    All I can say, this special better be good or it’ll tarnish the brand and legacy this show built

    1. It never was about the guests, it was the way Kath, Kim & Kel engaged with them….think Kath coughing up her hors d’oeuvre on Rachel Griffiths, Sharon and Warnie.
      I hope Celia and Sonia will have bit parts only

  4. mmm, the less said about the Ch7 season of K&K the better. While it wasn’t awful, it fell far short of the brilliance of the first three seasons.
    People do seem to love nostalgia, and I’m sure a special would rate its socks off.

    1. Agreed, the 7 version was not great. I’m hoping this won’t be just a shoddy cash in. Although they deserve the gains if they deliver a well written special.
