That’s when good Neighbours become good Friends

A famous theme song is actually coming true, thanks to the 10 Peach schedule.

It seems the theme song knew it all along… good Neighbours are about to become good Friends.

10 Peach will replace the eternal 6:30pm Neighbours slot with reruns of Friends from Monday August 1.

Peach has until recently screened Friends at 6pm, with another 1 hour block from 7-8pm.

From Monday August 1 it will air as a two hour block.

I was curious to see if 10 might put Bold & the Beautiful reruns into the slot to keep soapie fans happy, or maybe even go back to Classic Neighbours episodes -but that may entail residual expenses.

A Sunday morning replay will be given over to Big Bang episodes.

  1. I would love to know the economics of a station like 10Peach.
How much does it cost for Channel 10 to replay Friends, Big Bang Theory et al for the millionth time?
How much advertising revenue comes in form the station?

How much would more creative programming cost?

An Aussie crime/thriller night, an Aussie comedy night, an Aussie soap night?
A Sci Fi night, a comedy night, more movies (but not the same ones that get played over and over and over and over again).

Even if they are only for a month or so, some special nights, no not special, just not block repeats of the same stuff endlessly, I would be drawn in, at the moment nothing appeals. Not even as background.

  2. Why am I not surprised. In my opinion it’s a rather lazy poor programming decision. Since music show The Loop went off the air I’ve hardly looked at 10 Peach.

  3. I love friends & Big Bang but I think there will be too many repeats. What about heartbreak high, family matters, punky Brewster or ugly Betty or even neighbours from the 90’s. There are plenty of shows you can put on instead of repeats of friends because you will lose viewers

  4. As much as I love Friends and Big Bang I just cant see 10 peach going on the air forever after Neighbours ends next week. They might as well closedown the channel IMO.

  5. I have long wondered what the point of having multi channels has been considered the same old repeats. Both 9 and 10 are more into pay tv with P+ and Stan/$ports.
Maybe like the UK they could open Freeview to other interested parties. Sky and Discovery have free to air channels. My favourite was Horror.

  6. I reckon 10Peach may as well pack up, close down the station as they don’t have anything interesting to show. Nearly all the content are umpteenth repeats of dramas, comedy shows. It gets annoying when we have to suffer through repeats of US shows.

  7. I must admit Friends used to be a favorite of mine, now I really can’t stand it because they play it so much in a loop. 10peach really should add Joey episodes to the loop to increase the episode count.

What I thought would be a really good replacement for Neighbours would be showing E Street (maybe not from the start, but from when it started getting good). They could show it in hour blocks four nights a week, like they have been showing Neighbours recently.

    1. That’s a good thought actually. Instead of Friends and The Big Bang Theory (and not much else….) on 10Peaches schedule, they can bring back the odd Aussie Drama to fill the void – like E Street, as mentioned. Even Breakers later in the night if needed.

  8. There will be no reason to watch 10 Peach anymore as it’s just used for repeating ancient and boring sit coms they should lose their license all stations should be screening first run Australian Conduct

    1. What sort of local content would a 3% share fun? Something with sock puppets probably. The spectrum likely end up being used for cellular high bandwidth communication, so that people can stream Friends where ever they are. But it’s been 22 years and we have only got a few channels in MPEG4 HD.

  9. Well this is good news for me … I always have Friends on in the background at 6 o’clock while dealing with dinner as it’s light and easy to have on, so this just means I won’t have to change to another channel for something light and funny in that 6.30-7.00 gap.

  10. Might as well just stop 10 Peach altogether.

Apart from Neighbours is there any original content, I wouldn’t know, the only show I watch on the Ten Network is Neighbours. Before it starts there are US sitcom repeats and after it finishes there are US sitcom repeats. Why would you even bother to look at their schedule.

    1. I agree. After Neighbours ends, I won’t have any reason to watch 10 Peach. I do question the point of it if it’s just used to air endless repeats of sitcoms which can be accessed on any streaming platform.

I wish we could see classic Neighbours too. I know contractual issues stop that from happening, but I’d love to watch the early years I was too young to see.
