Kyle teases Australian Idol return

"I haven’t signed on yet but I’ve verbally agreed," says former Idol judge.

Radio host and new dad Kyle Sandilands has spilled he has agreed to return to Australian Idol for 2023.

On radio yesterday the KIIS FM host said he only agreed to the gig if Seven bosses delivered his contract personally so he could sign the papers live on-air.

“I think this week they’re bringing the contract, I said I’ll only sign it on the radio show, so all the big head honchos have to march into the studio with the contract. I’ll sign it live on-air,” Sandilands said.

He ruled out any involement from Osher Gunsberg, Dicko, Marcia Hines and Mark Holden.

“They can’t sign on someone else unless I sign off on it … I’m not going to be doing the show with a bunch of knobs,” Sandilands said.

“I’ve got a long list of knobs I won’t work with. I’d like at least one other Australian, and I would love a big name US and a big name UK, but it all depends, everyone’s touring around … But there’s a lot of big stars interested.”

After receiving an SMS reminding him not to announce his role, Sandilands added, “Yeah, OK. Well, I haven’t signed on yet but I’ve verbally agreed.”

  1. You’d hope there would be a complete refresh of the judging panel and host with a reboot. It’s a huge no from me seeing Sandilands back on Idol.
    Seven please have a rethink.

    1. I also would like to see a refresh. I loved the whole lineup back in the day but why can’t we have some new faces? Also would prefer not to have the usual reality show judges on here like Dannii Minogue and Mel B, again just to have fresh faces as I have enjoyed some of their previous work.

  2. Such a shame, Kyle is polarising….I think I would also have to avoid if he is involved which is unfortunate cos I would like to support live Aussie TV…is my pain of watching him worth it?

I would hate the show to become about the judges rather than the talent, American Idol has that balance right with Luke, Lionel and Katy….well sometimes with Katy…..but she is there for the contestants

  3. Please no to Kyle. I was looking forward to idol’s return until I read this. They need to refresh the judges, fresh new look. The Masked Singer has new look panel, apart from Dave and I like the refreshed look. New faces on the judging panel please, otherwise I’m another viewer gone.

  4. Simply No. Pass. Awful choice. You need to modernise Australian Idol and Kyle isnt that. Just because he is in radio doesnt make him worthy or judging music.

  5. That’s hilarious that he thinks he has that much power & has a list of people he refuses to work with. I reckon there’d be a longer list of people who refuse to work with him.

  6. That’s unfortunate. Idol overseas long ago left the nasty judge/bad auditions scenario behind so Kyle being involved means Seven has learnt nothing. Another format they can stuff up after The Voice & Big Brother.
Are they even going to keep the live shows which is the key to it’s success?
