Seven claims 2022 crown over Today

With 25 of 40 survey weeks won and a lead in key numbers, Seven is claiming a 2022 victory.

Sunrise is claiming victory over the Today show after winning its 25th week of the 40 week survey year.

The Seven breakfast show hosted by David Koch and Natalie Barr has won every week this year in metro and national.

Sunrise has an average national daily metro audience of 236,000 viewers to Today‘s 200,000.

Seven Network Director of Morning Television, Sarah Stinson, said: “We are proud that more than 1.01 million* people start with Sunrise every morning across Australia, and we never take it for granted.

“As the world bounces back from the past few years, Australians continue to turn to Kochie, Nat and the team for breaking news, a sense of community and the light and laughs we all need to start the day feeling great and well informed.”

Claiming victory on ‘weeks won’ is also a new move for Seven which traditionally rebuffed that idea when Nine frequently issued similar press releases around Nine News in some markets.

But the gap has also closed in Breakfast with both Today and even ABC’s News Breakfast managing the odd victory.

In commercial share Sunrise also has the edge at 45.5%, 6.7 share points bigger than Today. Sunrise is also #1 in its timeslot in people 25 to 54 nationally and has grown its BVOD audience on 7plus 30% year-on-year.

  1. Congrats to Seven….

Personally I don’t get the appeal of sunrise and their team, can someone explain it to me. I don’t like Karl on Today but I think he is ok from a choice of two terrible primary hosts

    1. Kochie and Karl are both good blokes but i find Kochie naturally funny whereas Karl is forced commedy. Karl needs to play to his strength more and that is he is a top journo when he wants to be. I find both Nat and Ally good but Nat and Kochie are a better mix in my opinion and the show has a more natural vibe about it.
