Shane Warne drama is “beyond disrespectful” says daughter, Brooke.
Eldest daughter of the late cricketer Shane Warne has slammed Nine's plans for a two part bio-drama.

Brooke Warne, the eldest daughter of the late cricketer Shane Warne has slammed Nine’s plans for Warnie, a two part bio-drama, announced yesterday at its annual Upfronts.
“Do any of you have any respect for Dad? Or his family? Who did so much for Channel 9 and now you want to dramatise his life and our families (sic) life 6 months after he passed away? You are beyond disrespectful,” she wrote on Instagram.
“He’s only been dead for a couple of months and for them to turn this around and think about doing some sensational thing, well they should be ashamed of themselves,” Warner’s long-time manager James Erskine told The Herald Sun at the time.
In April Head of Drama Andy Ryan told TV Tonight, consultations would continue with Warne’s family.
“His life was so intriguing, and a work in progress. It became more intriguing and interesting with every passing year and it’s a tragedy that Shane died so young. But the outpouring of grief adds an extra dimension. He’s definitely flawed, but a genius, a rogue and a rascal,” he said.
“Our relationship with him at the time, and now, has ebbed and flowed…we’ve seen the best and worst of ourselves in him. At the core, he was a genius cricketer but we don’t want to tell just a story about a genius cricketer. He was also a cultural icon but we don’t just want to tell a story about a cultural icon.”
He added, “Which phase of Shane’s life will we foreground? I think it’s fair to say a cradle to the grave biopic is not our style.”
Warnie was previously the name of Nine’s variety show, hosted by the cricketing legend in 2010.
Seven previously announced a Warne drama in 2017 but did not proceed.

I remember when word got out that Olivia Newton John wasn’t t happy about Seven doing a biopic on her staring Delta Goodrem. It was at that moment and to this day I still haven’t watched it. Looks like I won’t be watching the Warnie one either, his family doesn’t support it.
They played it the night after she died to make it worse.
you didn’t miss much, watched part of it, and it was awful imho. Apart from some of the acting, it looked very rushed.
I said almost exactly the same thing in my comments regarding Nine upfront yesterday. It’s bandwagon stuff, cringeworthy, tacky and I’ve no doubt poorly made, To try and “cash in” on his life is simply disrespectful and no doubt designed to rake in the ratings for the station. Is nothing in this country sacred and just left be. What censorship and classification will they put that under? What ever happened to “Rest In Peace”
It’s not a good look for Nine if the family aren’t behind it. It looks like a tacky attempt to get ratings.
Sorry, I won’t be watching this drama. This is very disgraceful and Warne will be turning in his grave.
Very, very, very poor and tacky behavior from Nine, who should be ashamed of themselves. I will not be watching. Is this really the best drama Australia has to offer? What a sad time for the industry…
Expected nothing less from those at 9. Disgraceful is an understatement.
I’m confused, did Nine consult the family or not? It seems like not much interaction was happening between the two parties. Sure you don’t need permission from the family, but a blessing is always nice. But what more should I expect from the station that promotes MAFS, Nine are tacky at times. Also, just plainly speaking, their drama slate of late has been less than impressive so hopes of this being decent are a long shot anyway imo… I ended up actually disliking After the Verdict following last night’s final.
