Disney+ price hike

Streaming fee rises from $11.99 to $13.99 per month in December.

Disney+ subscription fees will increase to AUD $13.99/month on December 8th 2022.

This lifts from the current pricing of $11.99/month

Annual subscription lifts from $119.99/year to $139.99/year on 8 December -meaning if you renew for a year ahead of the price change there is a ‘saving’ on an annual basis.

At the moment, Disney+ does not offer a free trial at signup.

This marks the second increase in price for Disney+, with the first one in February 2021 after Star channel was added.

The price change is timed to coincide with a new ad-supported subscription plan launching in the USA -that keeps the price at the current with ads, or an increase without…

There’s no date for when that reaches Australia, but based on the US model, could possibly cost the current $11.99 (to be confirmed).

  1. As a huge Marvel & Star Wars fan I’m more than happy with Disney+.
My wife & I move in & out of services like Netflix & Paramount whenever there are shows we want to watch.

  2. Disney+ is the only paid streaming service I have currently. I buy others — just for the month — when they have something I want to watch, i.e. I last bought into Netflix for ‘The Sandman’, Amazon for ‘Bosch: Legacy’ and ‘Reacher’. You get the picture. I bought a year’s worth just before the start of ‘Obi-Wan’, and it’s been great value so far (especially with young nieces and nephews) but after this hike … I’m not sure. I don’t think the “I’ll buy it this month because I want to watch X” works as well. Guess I’ll make the right decision when it comes to making it.

  3. We churned on Disney+ after they bought the Murdoch/Fox LCD programming. We also had no interest in the never-ending Marvel franchise and – following the initial two Disney-produced Star Wars movies – lost interest in that series as well.
    Time for some popcorn.

  4. A+ David for the picture, too funny.

Despite the increase, I won’t be cancelling Disney, still cheaper than the others and it’s the only streaming service I have left with a yearly renewal. I think the amount and quality of the shows are far better than the others always something new, for me.

  5. Whatever the business, when prices are put up it makes you re-evaluate the value. When Telstra raised their plan costs last year it knocked me out of complacency and I changed, saving $30 a month. With streaming, whenever a service changes its price it makes you think about what you watch on that service and consider stopping. Looking over a year, I still get good value out of Disney when you factor in the big blockbuster movies. But it will cause some churn. And as for advertising, good luck with that!

  6. Time to start culling some streaming services i think ,wonder if they’ll drop the resolution from a maximum of 4K to Full HD or HD 720p like Netflix has done ,I only sign up for a few months at a time anyway.
