Sam Armytage new host of Farmer Wants a Wife

Sam Armytage and Natalie Gruzlewski will effectively flip roles when dating series returns to Seven.

EXCLUSIVE:

Sam Armytage will be the new host of Farmer Wants a Wife for Seven in 2023.

Long term host Natalie Gruzlewski will be a co-host this season, understood to be keen to scale back her duties.

Brook Hall, Director of Scheduling told TV Tonight, “They’re both in the show still. (Previously) Nat was front and centre and Sam was advising on dates.

“But if I’m being honest, they’ve kind of slightly flipped. Nat has ‘Nat’s Getaway’ so she’ll be co-host, she’ll be opening the start. It’s more blended, with one front and one appearing. But yes, Samantha Armytage is taking more centerestage.”

Seven has been keen to get the series to air soon following the most successful coupling the show has seen.

Last month Hall said, “As it stands at the moment, they’re all still together. It’s quite amazing. When you look at a lot of these shows, it can be hard. People are cynical about these things. But there’s five couples and the show finished filming three months ago!”

Farmer is our play in the dating space. Everyone says, ‘There’s so much dating’….there’s a lot of Love Island, MAFS, Bachelor and they’re all amping it up. We’re always pulling Farmer back to keep it true to its nature and that’s been a directive in this one.”

This year’s farmers include:

Farmer Brad, 32 – Cootamundra, NSW
Farmer David, 29 – Pozieres, Queensland
Farmer Brenton, 26 – Darriman, Victoria
Farmer Matt, 23 – Bookham, NSW
Farmer Andrew, 41 – Narromine, NSW

  1. I think Sam should host the show from behind to end and open, if she is going to do it, do it all and own it, so it can be measured properly. I think last season was already wishy washy with two hosts. Everyone I know likes Natalie but she isn’t a big household name after all these years and I think that’s what the show needs to give it a boost and a farmer bloke as a co host.
Sam will be good if they let her be herself and ‘say it how it is’ which makes her fun to watch, and cast farmers that are rugged with heart.

  2. Though I really like Natalie and find her so refreshingly natural, I also really like Sam so very happy to see her back on our TV screens. Makes sense that Natalie most probably got involved in other projects when FWAW was cancelled for so long.

  3. I am not really a big fan of this show but I am a long time fan of the lovely and always impressive host Natalie! I hope she will still have some time on the show for her sake but I’d honestly much prefer to see her do something else similar to Getaway which she used to do on 9. Best of luck to Nat and what she decides to do.

  4. So if Nat is opening the start – and then they are doing a flip of presenting, I’m assuming this decision was made later on….Sounds like Nat has been pushed out during production?

  5. 100%, considering her popularity on Sunrise and ratings fell after she left, they’d be mad not to, smart already having her on the show for familiarity. Wonder what hew new contract will entail, could we see her back on the books for other events at Seven?

  6. I am not a fan of the show nor am I Sam’s number 1 fan. But I think it’s great that she’s playing a more significant role in the show. I think she has enough ‘haters’ during her time as a breakfast co-host and maybe doing something different like this could could soften these people’s views of her.

  7. If that’s Seven’s big hope after Idol flipping then I think they need to think again. For starters come up with original ideas and look at the fact your core schedule has a staggering 4 stripped reality formats that have already aired and peaked on other networks.
