FOX Footy today launched its 2023 season with its presenting team making a splash at Arbory Afloat on the Yarra.
It was announced that every game of every round will be made available in 4K Ultra HD to Foxtel customers, for the first time.
In attendance were Friday night football Jonathan Brown, Garry Lyon and new addition Jordan Lewis along with Jason Dunstall, Dermott Brereton and Eddie Betts.
Kath Loughnan, Sarah Jones and commentator Kelli Underwood also attended along with players such as Christian Petracca and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan.
Last year FOX Footy audiences were up 19% YoY on Foxtel and Kayo Sports with streaming up a staggering 37% alone.
FOX Sports Executive Director Steve Crawley said: “The feeling at FOX Footy is one of great excitement and expectation after a record-breaking season last year. We have a new rights deal which is signed and waiting to commence, giving us greater opportunity to entertain our growing audiences. At day’s end, you’re only as good as the football and AFL football is the best of the best.”
Nathan Buckley is set to join On the Couch alongside Garry Lyon and Jonathan Brown.
Meanwhile newly appointed GWS Giants captain Toby Greene has been recruited to the AFL 360 desk alongside Gerard Whateley and Mark Robinson as a rotating guest panellist for Player’s Night on Tuesdays – along with Jack Riewoldt, Christian Petracca, Tom Hawkins, Lachie Neale, Travis Boak and more.
FOX Footy will also hit the road in 2023, taking production in Round 5 to Adelaide for the inaugural Gather Round which will see more than 30 hours of live shows and match coverage broadcast.

What is Brihony Dawson doing there? Is she on Fox Footy this year?
She’s done a lot with AFLW in the past.
Do we know if they will be in 4K live, or if they will be made available in 4K delayed. There are many AFL games that are played at the same time or overlap other games. They’d need more 4K channels to allow for the games to be shown live
They have four 4K channels.
591 and 592 are satellite
593 and 594 are internet
“Confirming every game of every round of AFL will be available live in 4K Ultra HD. I believe the customer is asking if we still have 1 x dedicated 4K UHD channel and good news is we now have more – we have 5 4K UHD channels. When customers are watching a game on Footy or 503 both games will prompt them to watch in 4K via an on screen.” – Foxtel.
Either there is a correction needed here, or Foxtel Call Centre need updating. Enquired about ordering iQ5 box with Foxtel today and was told over the phone only ‘the majority of AFL games, not all will be available in 4K this AFL season’.
I wonder if games outside of Melbourne will be called from the stadium this year, or still from the studio.
And does that mean that Channel 7 will be producing their games in 4K?
