Seven returns to Dancing with the Stars

Seven's mirrorball trophy will be up for grabs with a new season now confirmed.

EXCLUSIVE:

It’s official.

Seven is bringing back Dancing with the Stars for a 20th season.

While the ballroom show was not confirmed for 2023 at last year’s Upfronts Seven sources confirmed to TV Tonight that casting is underway and expected to screen in Q2.

Hosts, judges and cast are yet to be confirmed but this will not be an All-Stars season, which Seven has staged in its last two outings.

This year the series will also be produced solely by BBC Studios Australia.

Matt Forde, BBC Studios Managing Director of International Production and Formats told TV Tonight, “Up until this point, we’ve been co-producing with Warner Bros. When we started four years ago, that was the preferred road for local broadcasters. But on this series of the show, it will be wholly produced by BBC Studios ANZ.

“So our office is now full of sequins and various other things. I used to look after it in LA, and it just gives your a whole production entity a buzz and excitement!”

Seven’s last season in 2022 was won by former DWTS host Grant Denyer & dancer Lily Cornish.

  1. I wouldn’t mind seeing Daryl get another shot at hosting. I’ve seen some Dr Chris Brown comments and it reminded me that Amanda Keller isn’t contracted to Ten either this year so you could literally sign up the Ten hosts of DWTS.

Rumours also abound that Julia Morris was heading to Seven after I’m A Celeb. The possibilities are endless for this hosting gig.

  2. Good to hear,

fun fact, The Block was on track to match DWTS record of 19 seasons this year. now it looks like DWTS will keep its nose in front and hold the record for an Australian reality series with a 20th season.

  3. Liked this show for the 15 years I lived in the UK. Seemed a little flat when watching the local version here. But it is still 100% better than the likes of most other reality TV and so-called ‘talent’ shows.
Daryl is fine as host, Bruce Forsythe was in his 80s in the UK. Why not a co-host like Kylie Gillies?
Judges panel will miss Paul Mercurio. But am sure we have some talented people out there.
As for celebrities, why not do as the BBC does in the UK, look beyond its own stable. That’s one of the main appealing attributes of ‘Strictly’, having a balance of stars from other networks onboard. Perhaps we are not quite adult enough for that yet here?
The UK appeal is across age groups as it involves many young people too.

  4. I enjoyed the two seasons on TEN, was actually the first time I watched more than glimpses of it. I may watch the Seven series if they can bring in a fresh host and judges, I enjoyed the line-up of hosts and judges on TEN, they all worked well. I expect Chris Brown will host based on his move to Seven mid-year.

    1. If it’s starting in second quarter he Brown can’t host it because he isn’t on contract at Seven until 3rd quarter. Article does say “expected to screen q2” so may not be set in stone. Somers still has good relationship with Seven because they’re airing all the Hey Hey specials etc.

  5. Some of the comments on this are hilarious. I think I read in early story on TV Tonight that Seven said it wouldn’t be an all stars version so that will be interesting. Also curious to see if they do it live and weekly or strip it and who replaces Paul Mercurio as a judge now he’s a Labor MP in Victoria?

    1. Really, …ageism…come on not necessary… you do realise dancing appeals to all ages and it has nothing to do with ability either, sometimes it nice to just watch people perform at their best.

        1. Ok …maybe word it differently so as not to cause offence. A gentle reminder though from a quote “Age is not a problem but Ageism is” . Dr Kay Patterson AO. I do agree it is old but people who love/like dance watch it and that’s why this “this oldie (but a goodie😂) likes it. Take care stay safe.

  6. Who from Home and Away will dance this year? Seven don’t really have many stars these days so unfortunately the B, C & D lists will be out in force. Maybe they can just get all the MAFS start to battle it out on the dance floor with the ‘comedians’ from WITB.
Are Daryl & Sonia hosting again?
