Production companies chasing mushroom posioning drama

"Get yourself an agent" is the advice to Leongatha locals with rumours production companies are pursuing stories.

A screen drama set around the bizarre but tragic mystery of the now infamous mushroom poisoning is looking increasingly likely.

The Age Journalist Richard Baker today told 3AW, “If I was anyone connected down in Leongatha of Korumburra with the mushroom story, get yourself an agent.

“There’s a lot of production companies looking round to hoover up anyone’s story remotely connected.”

Four guests dined in late July, with three people tragically losing their lives. Victoria Police are continuing investigations.

The Age recently posed a question to drama bosses at several networks about the viability of a future television drama.

“Are there producers already working out ways to pitch it?” ponders Rick Maier, head of drama and executive production at Paramount ANZ. “Very probably.”

“I suspect people are following the events in Leongatha really closely,” says Nine’s head of drama, Andy Ryan. “It’s a tragedy, make no mistake, and it’s gripped the imagination, but it’s still unfolding.”
