Netflix will not be proceeding with a second season of The Brothers Sun, the action comedy-drama starring Michelle Yeoh, Justin Chien, Sam Song Li, Joon Lee and Highdee Kuan.
The news comes almost two months after the series from Brad Falchuk (Glee, American Horror Story) and newcomer Byron WU was released on January 4th.
Described as a dark comedic drama and family soap, The Brothers Sun follows a Taipei gangster, Charles Sun (Chien), who’s settled into his life as a ruthless killer. But when his father is shot by a mysterious assassin, Charles must go to L.A. to protect his mother (Yeoh) and utterly unaware younger brother Bruce (Li).
The show spent five weeks in the Netflix Top 10 for English-language series, but it couldn’t find a large audience. Its performance was modest by Netflix standards, with its number of weekly views staying below 7 million and slipping under 2 million for its last two weeks in the Top 10.

I just finished watching this yesterday and was really looking forward to a 2nd season. Very disappointing.
One of the only shows that everyone in our house enjoyed and watched together.
I’m shattered. Great cast, story and action. Sad to this show not get a second season.
Well, that’s a shame, it was really enjoyable. I still don’t understand why Netflix doesn’t consider a longer-term value for its shows. Plenty of shows traditionally have built audiences over time. Also, the value proposition of people wanting to check out shows plummets when they’re cancelled. Do they not notice a lot of the most streamed shows are older shows from the Network days?
Anyway, this show is still worth watching as the season has an ending. It just had set up an opening for a future season.
I’ve noticed Netflix has been adding more network procedurals lately. A few seasons of Law and Order SVU and CSI. All the network Star Treks are there as well.
Cannot believe this. This was a wonderfully inventive show and seemed to be very popular. Hope it gets picked up on another network/streamer
