Shaun Micallef is on the Eve of Destruction

"If the pilot is anything to go by he will be setting things on fire in the studio!" says ABC of next madcap Micallef project.

EXCLUSIVE:

Shaun Micallef’s next television project for ABC is Eve of Destruction.

The original format is produced by ITV Studios Australia and Giant Baby, under the same production team as Mad as Hell -but charts a much different path.

“Your house is about to be destroyed, what two things would you save?” Micallef asks.

The format is expected to see Micallef test a celebrity on their prized possessions, one of which will be destroyed, by fire, explosives, or other madcap methods.

“Yes, Shaun Micallef is back and ITV Studios Australia is thrilled to be co production partners with Shaun’s company Baby Giant on Eve of Destruction for the ABC,” said ITV Studios Australia CEO and Managing Director David Mott.

“It is Shaun as Australia loves him, with a few surprises along the way.

“ITV Studios will be taking the format globally as we see opportunities in this unique, hilarious chat show rolling out in many countries.

“Pre-production commences next week and we also welcome back Executive Producer Peter Beck (Mad as Hell, Dancing with the Stars) to ITV.”

ABC Chief Content Officer Chris Oliver-Taylor said, “We are so excited to have the legend that is Shaun Micallef back with us on the ABC, if the pilot is anything to go by he will be setting things on fire in the studio. Must watch TV!

“We are also absolutely thrilled to work with Motty, Micallef and everyone at ITV – it’s great to get this amazing team back together in Studio 31.”

The series is due later this year.

  1. The concept is absurd –
If you allow a “prized possession” to be destroyed, it is clearly not a “prized possession”.

Sounds like the stuff that David Letterman used to do of throwing TV sets and paint tins out of a window and blowing things up.

Mildly amusing for the first 5 seconds, then rapidly turning into a tedious day at bogan preschool.
