Friday Flashback: Riverboats on the Murray when West Digital TV went ‘off air’

In 2016 when an affiliation deal between WIN & Nine could not be struck before midnight, viewers were slugged with picturesque tourism videos on a loop.

It was disappointing news in Mildura this week when Mildura Digital Television shut down after joint venture holders WIN TV and Seven confirmed its closure after 18 years.

Back in 2016 during an affiliation negotiations between WIN & Nine failed to reach a deal on regional broadcaster West Digital Television, viewers were left with nothing but endless loops of riverboats in Echuca, waves lapping the shores of the Sapphire Coast.

It was a game of bluff and brinkmanship as the clock ticked past midnight without a deal in place.

After a two day stalemate a deal was struck, aided perhaps by the pressure of a federal election which was underway at the time.

Sadly viewers in Mildura were not so lucky, forced to now watch Network 10 shows via 10Play.
