ICYMI: The 6:57 News
Anchor Mark Humphries threw to Joe Biden clips in his first outing on Seven News.

Sandwiched in between the Seven News weather and AFL / Better Homes & Gardens, last night comedian Mark Humphries made his debut with a weekly comedy sketch, The 6:57 News.
The ‘news within news’ segment saw Humphries as a fake anchor throwing to Joe Biden clips, Cheap Seats-style, while the Seven News theme music (annoyingly) played underneath throughout.
Did it succeed in its first outing? Social media was none too kind, and it didn’t help that it debuted on the day Sharyn Ghidella was unfunnily sacked by the network after 17 years.
I’m hoping it doesn’t take the format of a bulletin parody every week, but rather can include faux interviews, vox pops, location and whatever else the budget allows….
It will no doubt take time for the audience to adjust to this concept introduced by news boss Anthony De Ceglie.
Here is the first sketch, in case you missed it…
Mark Humphries has finally landed the most coveted timeslot on TV and social media: the 6:57 pm News. I feel embarrassed for everyone involved
Who does Mark Humphries know? He seems to get chance after chance on Australian tv but just does not resonate well with audiences. He’s so eugh.
Never put bean counters in charge of tv networks, they’re not creative, intuitive and don’t watch tv.
I suspect when they voted in the boardroom about comedy and horoscopes in the News people were too scared to tell the truth.
Why would you mess with the News and your 7pm lead ins like this?!
Biden jokes were everywhere the night before on The Project and that morning on Today, old funny news.
I watched it this week but I won’t be watching again. I didn’t find it particularly funny.
The Oz version of Pointless should have worked, however Mr Humphries ruined it. That constant Doc reference was extremely annoying & I wouldn’t watch anything else he did. Some people are not meant for TV.
Blessed by a material rich day, but not overly funny. One maybe two more weeks tops.
Those that think this was pro-Trump propaganda from 7 are delusional, it’s all anyone is talking about on both sides. Also…we don’t get a vote! 😂
Sorely missing Mad as Hell
I found it to be lowbrow humour. Picking on someone who is being affected by age-related declines in cognition – is not funny, but simply ageism.
Yes I agree …and Sky News Australia have nothing much else to criticise..they haven’t stopped banging on about “elder abuse” for over a fortnight….while they are committing “verbal elder abuse “ nearly every time they report on him.
We don’t need it. If Seven want to do comedic news, fine but create a talk show but keep it out of the real news.
If he gets a better offer and he’s not under contract..snap it up…is all I can say.
And two rows of ‘crawls’ moving in opposite directions at the same time. Ugh. Just a Cheap Seats rip off – except they do it so much better.
I like Mark, and he’s done some great stuff over the years. While I get that we all gotta pay the bills, it really seems like he’s sold out here.
I thought it was a skit? Was it meant to be funny? It just came across and pro Trump propaganda……
After years of your april fools pranks, it seems someone got a little to inspired.
pathetic
It was ok, but nothing I hadn’t already seen and heard from every other comedy clip show or late night talk show monologue all week. Thankfully the segment was available on Sevens YouTube channel, but with comments disabled.
