Michael C. Hall was this week confirmed to reprise the role of Dexter Morgan in the new series Dexter: Resurrection, despite his character being killed off in Dexter: New Blood.

He will also be heard as narrator in origin story Dexter: Original Sin.

The announcement was made by a surprise appearance from Michael C. Hall (Dexter, Six Feet Under) alongside Executive Producer and Showrunner Clyde Phillips (Dexter, Nurse Jackie) at San Diego Comic Con.

“We are thrilled to have the brilliant Michael C. Hall reprise his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in Showtime’s most successful series ever,” said: Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios.

“While Dexter: Resurrection will appeal to the tens of millions of longtime fans, Dexter: Original Sin will introduce a whole new generation of viewers into this iconic series by starting from the beginning, which is sure to satisfy existing audiences as well.”

Both shows will screen in Australia on Paramount+.

  1. Hmmm. Not sure how I feel about this. I loved the original series, despite the disappointing ending. But they attempted to resolve this in New Blood. It’s pretty heard to come back from death. I’ll be interested to see how they manage that.

    1. Probably ‘resurrected’ as the dead mentor/confidant to his son a la his cop stepfather in the original series or his dead stepsister Deborah in ‘New Blood’-very much a secondary role that would be a let down to ‘Dexter’ fans.

  2. With the rust being brushed off this well used Dexter franchise yet again, I can only think that it is Michael C. Hall who is attempting to be resurrected.

  3. It was a bad show for the entire second half its original 8 season run, and downright woeful for at least a quarter of it. New Blood was barely any better. For the love of God, just let it die.

  4. I might watch. I did enjoy Dexter despite it’s decline towards the end. The final act of the last episode was awful. I never watched that last revival as it was also meant to be bad. Just undo all that and we’re here for it. Cut to Dexter meeting Hannah in South America. Start from there.

    1. There’s bad news on the Hannah front-as far as the Mikey C’s appearance in this cash grab prequel; he’ll be doing a ‘Young Sheldon’ style voiceover narrator-no actual body on screen.
