Follow the 1,300-mile journey across Nigeria with broadcaster and writer Michael Palin, as he visits this vast country for the first time. Experiencing what life is like in this dynamic country, through the voices, opinions and experiences of Nigerians from all walks of life, he finds a place where optimism can rule in the face of adversity, where world history casts a shadow, and where the modern world and contemporary Africa are found side by side.
Episode One:
In the first leg of an epic journey across Nigeria, Michael is in bustling Lagos where he visits an extraordinary waterfront school, then dodges alligators at the Emir of Kano’s palace.

I’m legitimately astonished he’s on another trip. I have no qualms about admitting that I thought the Iraq trip — and it wouldn’t surprise me if he did too — would be the last, and moreso since the death of his wife last year. Loved his travel work since … well ‘Pole to Pole’ was the first one I remember being on (IIRC it was Tuesday nights: Double ep of ‘The Bill’, Palin, and it was time for bed once I heard the voice of George Negus on ‘Foreign Correspondent’). I only ever watched ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ on a repeat screening in the early afternoon in the mid 90s. Can’t wait to see the insights he has on this new adventure.
