Return to Paradise, the Australian spin-off from Death in Paradise, will premiere on ABC in September.

The six-part series combines the DNA of the smash hit mystery with Australia’s iconic coastal landscape and penchant for quirky characters.

Mackenzie Clarke (Anna Samson) becomes the first lead female detective in the ‘Paraverse,’ forced to leave London under a cloud of suspicion and return back to the last place she ever wanted to be, her hometown of Dolphin Cove, Australia. Having fled the town six years ago, infamously leaving her ex- fiancée Glenn (Tai Hara) at the altar, Mackenzie is not welcome back. But with no other job options and a compulsion for solving mysteries, a reluctant Mackenzie joins the team at Dolphin Cove Police Station.

Once a case lands on her desk, she can’t rest until she’s figured it out and the killer is in handcuffs. It’s that tenacity and work ethic that might just, over time, help Mackenzie win over her new colleagues and the people of Dolphin Cove.

Ardal O’Hanlon (Death in Paradise) will make a guest appearance in the series.

The ensemble cast includes Lloyd Griffith (Ted Lasso, Nolly), Catherine McClements (Total Control, Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries), Celia Ireland (Wentworth, Total Control), Andrea Demetriades (Mother and Son, The Artful Dodger) and Aaron McGrath (Gold Diggers, Preppers).

  1. Dolphin Cove? Hmmm maybe they could have returned her to Porpoise Spit or Pearl Bay? I thought we had moved past that sort of cliche’d Australiana?

  2. I really want to like this but there is something about this preview where I can say there is nothing we haven’t seen before. I will wait to see the first episode and how Anna Samson is in the lead. There is nothing here where I can see a clear link with the Paradise universe.
