Gold Logie 2024: It’s Larry Emdur!
The Morning Show and The Chase host tells the nation, "Apparently it's rhyming slang.... if you're going on a bender, you're going on a Larry Emdur!"

Longtime television presenter, and bonafide nice guy, Larry Emdur has won the Gold Logie for 2024.
“40 years I’ve been in the business,” the The Morning Show and The Chase host said.
“I was so convinced if I won I’d have all the initials of the nominees tattooed on my arse tomorrow morning!
“I love being in TV, and I love being on TV, and I’ve never done anything else, and I’ve never ever wanted to do anything else,” he said.
He referred to himself as, “Television’s most axed man….. there’s been some terrible times as well, and some times of self doubt for sure. After all of those axings, plenty of times where I’ve had to think, ‘Am I right for this? Do I look right? Do I sound right? Am I in the right business?’
He acknowledged The Chase team and The Morning Show gang.
“I wrote in my book, which is now available in all good clearance bins, that Kylie (Gillies) and I sat on The Morning Show couch to audition 17 years ago, and we clicked, and we’ve never unclicked, and it’s terrific. We say we get married at 9 o’clock every morning, divorced at 11:29….although now that I’m 60, I need to get closer to the toilet, so sometimes it’s 11:28.”
Emdur’s win bettered his fellow nominees Julia Morris, Robert Irwin, Andy Lee, Asher Keddie, Sonia Kruger and Tony Armstrong.
He also thanked family including his late father who passed on advice on very first day going to the Channel Seven newsroom as a cub reporter.
“I said, ‘Dad, what do I do in there for my job?’ And he goes, ‘Mate, just be nice to everyone. Just be nice to everyone.’ And that was 40 years ago, and I remember to this day, but I came home after a couple of weeks and Dad said, ‘How’s it going?’ I said, ‘Dad, I’m trying, but there’s so many arseholes in this business -like so many!'”
He thanked wife Sylvie and his kids aged 25 and 30.
“They haven’t watched Free to Air TV in about 15 years, but they are proud of me for one thing, and apparently out there, it’s rhyming slang now that if you’re going on a bender, you’re going on a Larry Emdur!”
He added, “This is so so special to me. I want to always remember the time that I was nominated for a Gold Logie. Let’s get on the Larry Emdur, everyone. Thank you so much.”

Well done Larry, have been entertaining us for decades, I must be getting old myself as hard to believe he is 60, seems like only a few years ago he was doing the Price is Right, now all these years on the morning show, Congratulations and well deserved.
About time! I’m so chuffed he won and not Sonia, Robert or Julia. Give the gold logie to someone who’s actually been around for decades. I still don’t understand how Robert got nominated.
Well done Larry – he does seem to be like a top bloke in many ways. I can remember shows that he hosted incluidng TPIR, WOF, morning Show and now The Chase.
I’d rather go through old archives of favourite shows including TPIR and WOF. In 2005, WOF was rested that period following a turbulent 2004 season (with Steve Oemcke as host). When Larry took over as host of Wheel in 2006, I thought in my head that it will help lift the ratings. But sadly, the show ended production after 6 months and I was very disappointed with the shows cancellation.
This was a good winner. The Gold Logie should, in my opinion, go to someone who has been on TV for at least 15 years, on multiple shows, preferably with a variety of skills required. That is, someone who has really contributed to the culture of Aussie TV. Larry is a deserving winner.
The gold confetti was hilarious :D Poor Lisa McCune and Larry Emdur almost drowned!
Never have been a fan of Larry but his speech was brilliant and straight from the heart. You could feel the pure joy that he had by winning. I may even start to like him now but he needs better jokes.
I predicted this would finish close to Midnight, was I right?
11:55 yep.
It must be one of the longest durations in its history? I defer to the expert DK, but in the half a century i’ve been watching them (i don’t recall too many this long) nearly 4 and a half hours, not incl red carpet, is toooooo much! I agree with others comments on the main thread that the opening was too long (the pre record), the harbour shoot could have been tightened (nice idea), and Rebecca”s segment with the Julia Zemiro bit (was like a mini This Is Your Life) all were too flabby. It seemed that no-one cared about the running time.
There was one after midnight, I think about 12:30am.
I’m pleased for Larry; it’s been a long time coming, But I do find the campaigns each year as to who is selected then put up for vote bewildering. Whilst it is refreshing not to have the good ol days of the same person winning year after year, the randomness of which veteran might end up on the list is odd. How Asher Keddie was there for last year was baffling.
But back to Larry. I went to primary school with him and i recall it as if it was yesterday; (1974) he was absent from school one day and when he returned he told us he had filmed his first commercial! Can’t recall if it was for chocolate or cereal something like that, We all went ooh ahh – when he told us he was paid $100 for it! It was 50 years ago after all. In his own words his life has been devoted to television. And he was finally recognised for that,
Wow TVT readers are across everything.
Totally agree, and that’s why I was pleased Andy didn’t win. Seems like a nice guy, but I got so sick of all the ads during the Olympics to vote him for Gold. How about no, we’ll vote for who we like.
Highlight of the night for me was John Farnham tribute by Jess and Guy. Think I might be the only one but I am not a big fan of Sam Pang. Not saying he was awful or anything like that but just not my cup of tea. No matter how many years pass by, no one will ever replace Bert for me. Miss seeing Patti there too! Very happy for Larry, huge congratulations!
Agree. Too much of his comedy was just put-downs. You could tell by the audience reactions that many times he went too far.
It was hilarious when half way through his speech he remembered he said he would get a tattoo of all the other nominees if he won.
Larry nailed his speech. A very worthy winner.
I know that Tony Armstrong and Robert Irwin are popular and have their fan bases, though realistically, they’re relatively young and have more opportunities. Larry has been around on the screen for decades. Going back to The Price Is Right and a heap of other hosting roles.
The Logies are unpredictable and I thought it could’ve gone either way, though I agree that it was the right choice and well deserved.
Long overdue recognition!
I seriously don’t understand.
In these days of calling out people on behaviour that wouldn’t fly today (use Hey Hey as the prime example), why has Larry never been chastised for his actions on The Price is Right? In plain sight of viewers, he was the personification of sleaze and couldn’t keep his hands to himself.
Good on him, obviously a long time coming. Not a fan of the gold confetti cannons though for the second year, it seems to cheapen the moment a little.
I thought it looked cheap because the tight-arses offer so little bandwidth that the confetti reduced the broadcast to a hideously blurry mess.
There is a Tom Scott YouTube video that explains why all broadcast tv turns into a hideously blurry mess when confetti is involved.

You could tell the vibe from the room that it was the right choice, overdue and what a natural confident I think fully ad libbed speech!
Much deserved.
His speech was great. So humble. And had many laughs too.
I thought a pretty decent show. Larry Edmur’s acceptance speech was high quality (and I doubt many thought he would win but after 40 years with zero gongs, wins not one but two including the gold is well deserved). Boy swallows universe quite obviously the big winner (never watched it but will now). Sam was good again and certainly did not hold back on the host broadcaster. Channeling his inner Ricky Gervais no doubt.
Very deserving win. Always seems like a top bloke and he has paid his dues in the industry – I forgot about shows like Celebrity Splash…
I think he want everyone to forget about celebrity splash.
Chuffed for Larry – been a fan of his since growing up with The Price is Right.
And as well as all the awards they won, another tie-in to Working Dog with Larry making a cameo appearance in The Castle!
