Sam Pang has opened the 64th TV Week Logie Awards at The Star, Sydney.
“It’s fair to say the major networks have all found themselves in the news this year,” he told the room.
Of Seven he joked, “Whatever I say this network will defend me in court…. I’m not getting paid tonight, instead they’ll pay my rent for the next 12 months.”
As Pang nodded to some of the nominees, it didn’t take long for the first Raygunn joke.
He also observed, Sigourney Weaver couldn’t attend after colliding with Peter Costello at Canberra airport….and he joked there would no auction of the Gold Logie this year which finished as a silent auction last year.
Of the Gold nominees he joked Larry Emdur’s audience is “nursing homes, hospitals and the long term unemployed” while a Robert Irwin win would be “a fitting end to 8 months in the industry.”

Finally caught up on felixs speech. What a humble 15 year old kid. To get up in that room & speak like that was amazing & he threw in humour as well.
Kitty Flanagan’s joke – a one worder consisting of saying the word f*** – at 8pm.
If it had been Karl Sandilands or Sophie Monk saying it, they would have been pummelled by social media.
Another reminder of the selected outrage by the Twitter/X universe.
For her, the joke will likely be the highlight of her life.
For Australian TV, another nail in the coffin.
The awards were classified as M from 7:30pm (Red Carpet PG) which fits with the current system so there is no issue, except perhaps for those expecting clean broadcast. Swearing has actually been pretty common at the Logies, be it Rove, Tom Gleeson, or Michael Cole in 1973.
Also I saw a clip of Celia P saying “Channel 7 are trying to f$&@ me” before going to a clip of the nominee
That was a reaction to the autocue showing the wrong award. I noticed there seemed to be a few autocue issues throughout the night…
What a great Logies the best yet!
Sam was great and smashed his opening dialogue, interesting he didn’t bag Nine out the only network he doesn’t work for. A very deserving two wins for Larry and his gold Logie speech was the best. Felix’s first speech was so heartfelt and brave and Rebecca Gibney son’s speech and her reactions were both inspiring Logies moments. A lot of genuine people won last night, and it’s clear that our tv landscape has changed and for the better, streaming services got a lot of exposure because they are the ones creating the best tv at the moment, the three major FTA networks are just rehashing old stuff and have too many egos on and off camera and its getting old. It was sad to see so many on and off camera tv professionals have passed, it was nice to see them getting recognition for their hard work in a moving moment.
Anyone in television or media that didn’t watch last night shouldn’t be in the industry!!
Was watching bits and pieces of Today this morning and the Logie for (was it) Best Sport Program and got to say Jess Fox is very natural on camera
absolutely. there is a star in the making both in sport, but as a future presenter. Great presence and rocket the autocue.
Overall, it was quite entertaining, compared with some previous years, and I liked that it kept to tight timing mostly. I hadn’t heard about the change in categories. It was an improvement, but an unexpected negative is that if you put together all the nominees in all categories, it was very monotone. So many good shows and actors did not even appear, and two shows dominated. It was refreshing when there was a chance someone else might win.
I loved the Hall of Fame choice, but felt that the segment went too long. They could have cut out most of the talking heads who were very repetitive. The In Memoriam was the best part, as usual, and Missy Higgins was stellar.
Sam Pang was a real downer for me. I think he might be funny if left to speak naturally, but nearly all of his ‘jokes’ were actually put-downs, which you could tell by the muted laughter. Chris Brown was classy while being roasted.
The presenters got better as the night went on, and Stephen Curry was hilarious.
I’ve noticed a lot of comments on here and socials, about a lot of the dialogue broadcast last night, from ‘F-bombs’ to innuendo. Seven did classify the program as “M” with “Some Coarse Language” and “Adult Themes” and has been allowed at 7:30pm (non-feature films) for nearly 9 years now, including a clear and prominent warning on-screen at the outset of the show. So I don’t see the big deal. Clearly some were scripted or flagged in pre production.
I would hardly describe it as “clear and prominent” as shows used to be prefaced with an actual on-air warning (with spoken announcement), rather than relegated to an often barely-legible blob at the top-left of the image for a mere few seconds at the beginning of a programme (and by that time, particularly with episode recaps, some of those elements might already be present on-screen).
When returning from a break, the classification symbol used to be accompanied with letters to indicate the presence of elements at the respective classification level (A – Adult themes, L – Coarse language etc.), and the networks have all stopped providing that information as well, which further diminishes the usefulness of classification entirely.
While I don’t think that those complaining about the Logies have a leg to stand on per se (it was rated M after all), I think on-air warnings should not have been minimised and rendered less informative than they have been in more recent years.
It’s required at the top of show and EPG.
The absolute highlight of the night for me was seeing Felix’s speeches. He was just delightful. The industry is looking bright with him in it.
How depressing that commercial networks had nothing to submit in Childrens’ Program, only RFDS was submitted in Drama. ABC left to keep the ship afloat in most categories, plus the pay channels. Even the Gold went to a morning spruiker of non-stop commercials for three hours and an afternoon game show host. Been watching Logies since ep.1. Nothing in them excites me anymore. Except Sam Pang or his writer.
To be fair, we don’t know what the networks submitted for each award. The “judges” chose the nominees from the submissions. Perhaps they thought some programs weren’t “good enough” to be nominated. The new voting system is different to previous years.
I didn’t watch but have just read the results and most seem to have gone to the right people, out of the group for Gold I agree with most and think Larry was the deserving winner.
Bryan Brown winning made me laugh because of the end bit they had on Micallef’s Eve of Destruction, where Stephen Curry cursed Bryan Brown for beating him for that award. To which, Felix Cameron what a natural he is, quick witted on Eve of Destruction and great in the film Penguin Bloom and the series Boy Swallows Universe, thoroughly deserves those awards, what a wonderful young fellow he comes across as being.
There was a time when I had seen just about every show nominated for a Logie. But now with so much content and so many shows coming and going, so many I either haven’t seen, missed, forgot about or just didn’t know about. Watching The Logies just added many more shows to my list of what to watch.
I’m looking forward to seeing the tattoo, Lazz’ !
I think this year, with the exception of current affairs, the winners seemed to go to the correct recipients. Current affairs is just woeful with activism, sensationalism, hit pieces and propaganda which isn’t convincing. I’m not their biggest fan, but probably Best Current Affairs Program should’ve gone to ACA, or an SBS program if it were nominated. To be fair, current affairs had its critics in the Frontline days as well. I think the whole current affairs and news media needs an overhaul. Be neutral and just report both sides or every angle instead of trying to influence.
Guy Sebastian says it’s a tough time to be a musician in Australia, though it comes down to marketing. Everyone’s talking about Raygun, but not The Voice or Idol stars.
The Cheap Seats shouldn’t be forgotten. When channels are struggling, TCS has reinvigorated FTA TV, for Ten anyway at least. It should be acknowledged.
Deborah Mailman is always incredible, but it seems criminal that Phoebe Tonkin wasn’t recognised for her role in Boy Swallows Universe. She was really outstanding.
I like RFDS but how on earth did it win over Total Control? Would have liked Julia Morris to win Gold. She’s been around for quite a long time too since the Fast Forward days so definitely is due to win. Sam Pang was excellent again. If 10 ever get the Logies they should have him host too. Was happy to see MasterChef win since it was the last one with Jock.
