Nine’s Olympics ratings blitz, 10 reaches 60.

Australia's dominance at the pool has helped break Nine records. 10 marks six decades on air.

No surprises that Nine’s Olympics broadcast has drawn massive crowds, with Australia killing it at the pool.

Nine finished the week with a massive 54.6% share, blitzing the competition. This surpasses Seven’s first week of 49.8% share for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The biggest single night proved to be Sunday with a 58.9% share.

The biggest audience was also on Night 2 at 2.5m average while 9Now records have tumbled, with the highest minutes consumed in a single day of any Australian broadcaster ever.

Of course, at year’s end two weeks of Games will need to be separated from annual share.

Their success came at the expense of all other broadcasters, including Network 10 which marked 60 years on air on Thursday, with an intimate bash at The Project studio in Melbourne.

  1. I know that Post-Olympics can be go either way between Seven and Nine depending on how well they fare in the ratings. Seven have the AFL finals and The Voice coming up, while Nine have The Block, NRL FInals and Melb Cup. But this will depend on the types of teams playing in Finals and the overall result. I still think that the AFL GF will be the top ratings program for this year in terms of average audience.

  2. I love the Olympics but am already tired of the constant replays all day and night long. I realise why it is being done but gee how many times can you show the one event and do so many long long interviews with the same person? Congratulations to all our wonderful competitors. You are all winners!

  3. It’s a very strong result for nine given the unfriendly time zone for live events. For week one at least, seven news and sunrise has mostly held its numbers. Yes nine’s numbers are through the roof but seven has mostly stayed plus or minus where they usually are for 6pm news and sunrise.
