Packed to the Rafters , Halifax FP and Flying Doctors star Rebecca Gibney has been inducted into the TV Week Logies Hall of Fame.
She becomes only the fourth woman inducted into the Hall of Fame alongside Ruth Cracknell, Noni Hazlehurst and Kerri-Anne Kennerley.
She wall introduced by both Claudia Karvan, Erik Thomson and son Zac Bell.
“I’m so overwhelmed,” she said.
She thanked TV Week, the Australian public, the writers, her co-stars, every crew she has worked with, her agent, and family.
“You can be anything you want in this world,” she said nodding to the women in her life who have been instrumental, from her mother to producers.
“My mother overcame the most traumatic childhood and raised six children, pretty much single handedly and often under terrible circumstances, and she taught us the most important thing in life is forgiveness, kindness and respect. ‘That you can be anything you want in this world, make sure you treat people the way you wish to be treated,” she recalled.
“And I have been so fortunate to have been guided and supported by some incredible, visionary women on this journey, from my mother to my first agent to the many female producers, directors, fellow actors and crew who have encouraged me behind the scenes. And I am very proud to be one of only four women to ever been inducted into the Hall of Fame. ButI know that there are many more to come. So thank you so much.”

A very deserving winner, Jace grown up watching her on tv and loved everything she has been in, such an emotional presentation too with her son’s speech and awarding the Logie. Congratulations Rebecca on a great career.
Ding Dong should have got it before Rebecca as she has been around nearly non stop since the 1960s and done it all, sang, danced acted and hosted. She also did it in a male dominated era. Maybe it’s because Denise is more of people person and never acted like a star. Or maybe she has been punished for throwing a Brussel Sprout at Ita. Having said that there is no doubt that Rebecca deserved to be honoured by the award. An awesome actress and above all a decent human.
I admit I would not have thought of Rebecca for HOF. But watching that long segment (too long methinks), I can see the reverence she holds in the TV landscape. Ironic to have Sigrid Thornton in the package waxing lyrical, as i could see her inducted too, perhaps before Rebecca, but the whole merit thing is so subjective. I’ve been pushing (as have many others, incl our host) for figures like Caroline Jones (too late, sadly) or Denise Drysdale or Jana Wendt. Perhaps they were not TV sexy as Rebecca Gibney is, but trail blazers like Ruth Cracknell, for me is the main ingredient for the honour. Why KAK over Denise? You could argue longevity is now the ingredient for the Gold as it seems the recent years have tossed up long overlooked figures. But the Gold is a weird mix now of campaigns; but in that respect nothing has changed since the hard copy TV week years of sending forms to vote.
But Rebecca was splendid, a beautiful presence during the intro; her son a delight. Great speech!
Well deserved, Bec.
The award celebrates those who work in the industry in Australia, which Rebecca has for almost 40 years. Not to say that Denise Drysdale isn’t deserving, the gender imbalance in the HOF is really quite telling as to who has had the power in Australian media and television.
TVT raised the issue of gender imbalance a decade ago and called for change. Good to see it is widely noticed now.
Thanks to Fiona Byrne in the Sunday Herald Sun and Erik Thompson on the Red Carpet leaking/spoiling it for many… And on that, how many tip offs and pre records are done for the Logies? So much for secrecy and security. So many nominated personalities absent too.
Very deserving and a great package and speech.
As much of a good actress she is there is one thing we have forgotten, that she is a proud New Zealander. Not Australian. I think this was a 7 call because of Rafters not a TV Week decision.
What does Denise Drysdale have to do?
Rebecca’s contribution to Australian TV can’t be ignored. It doesn’t matter where she was born. Yes, I agree with you that Ding Dong would be a worthy recipient too
Agreed on both points.
She’s a wonderful actress, but there are so many more deserving women.
That’s not on Rebecca (whom I think is incredibly talented), that’s on the Logies for failing to induct more women before now. Whether it’s now or ten years in the future, Rebecca has earned her place in the Hall of Fame.
I’ll have to check the comments again, but I don’t think any of us guessed it. I didn’t think of her and I think I speak for everyone when I say, we thought she was too young (she’s almost 60 too)
It was tipped in media last week and very obvious when Erik Thomson on red carpet said he was giving out almost the biggest award of the night.
