Craig Hutchison has now confirmed his departure from Nine’s Footy Classified, with his Rainmaker production company set to make rival AFL shows for Seven.
The Age reports he said on his said on his Sounding Board podcast, “After the show on Tuesday night I let my colleagues know that I was choosing to hang the boots up from Footy Classified after 18 years, and in advance I had contacted Eddie [McGuire] and arranged to go and see him on Wednesday, not because I needed to, but out of respect because originally Eddie was the one that gave me the opportunity to go to Nine and host that show.
“Then I let the Nine execs know on Wednesday that I didn’t intend to continue.”
The chief executive of Sports Entertainment Group, (pictured secon from right) joins Kane Cornes and Caroline Wilson (still to be confirmed by Seven) in an exodus which is proving to be the biggest shake-up in years.
Seven is expected to announce new mid-week AFL shows for 2025.

This has to be the biggest musical chairs since 2011, when Ten infamously announced they would not be bidding competitively for the 2012 AFL rights under new board/management who ruined the network and talent/crew went to Seven and Foxtel, also Nine.
I read on Mediaweek yesterday that Tony Armstrong’s contract with that the ABC is up next week and nothing is yet agreed going forward. One wonders if Seven may manage to lure him over as part of their expanded AFL coverage?
That’s a good call. Or Channel 9 for that matter..
He’s leaving ABC NewsBreakfast at the end of this week and has a new show on ABC next year.
Nine is the rumour.
Would love to see him permanently do sport on The Cheap Seats, but there’s a lot more for him to do at the other networks
