  1. I’ve got to hand it to Channel 10 for the worst pre-game shows way back when they had the ALF broadcasting rights for not even bothering to pay a singer or band to play two or three songs.

What we were treated to in subsequent years were the casts of Neighbours, The Comedy Company and Let the Blood Run Free being paraded around the oval in open top vehicles either smiling and waving or play-acting their various characters in a stunning display of sheer non-entertainment.

  2. Well, it was at least better than Meatloaf at the 2011 AFL Grand Final (which was time that no one would be able to get back, it was that bad). But I do remember the re-enactment ads from CUB a few years back that mentioned this in the ad.

  3. Interesting comment from Tim Watson on this week’s Talking Footy: “I was talking to some people during the week [clearly Seven staff] who reckon if this was held at 5:15pm [twilight GF into prime time if not a full prime time – a la 2021 and 2020 respectively] this Saturday would be the most watched ever … that viewership along the east coast for Sydney vs Brisbane”. Then reporter Mitch Cleary added his two cents: “Yeah, the theory is those up north who might not be ‘rusted-on’ AFL fans, might be out during the day, but more likely to tune-in on TV at night”. Both obviously leaning into the long-held Seven executive view too, but valid and probably true points. I guess Sunday morning’s numbers can be taken with a grain of salt. James Brayshaw also then said: “Let’s then not survey it, just AFL House make a decision and be done with it, twilight Grand Final from now on and we’ll all be saying ‘what jave we been doing for the past 100 years”.
