Princess Pictures has appointed Katie Shortland to the new role of Commercial Director.
She has held senior roles in the business affairs and legal departments of independent production companies for more than 20 years, including The Wiggles, Flying Bark Productions and, most recently, as the Head of Business Affairs and Strategy for the CJZ Group across Australia and New Zealand.
Shortland has worked across all genres of film and TV and financed and domestic and international deals across every major territory in the world, supporting original content from early development, through production and distribution.
Emma Fitzsimons, Managing Director of Princess Pictures, welcomed Katie to the company saying: “We are beyond thrilled to be welcoming Katie, who brings so much experience and ambition to the Princess team at what is an exciting, boundary-pushing time for the company.”
Katie Shortland said: “To be joining an established production company that is ready, willing and able to keep evolving and adapting to the industry is incredibly exciting. The entire team at Princess Pictures, under the leadership of Laura and Emma, strive for unique storytelling and have delivered for more than 20 years. I cannot wait to join the team in Melbourne and contribute to Princess Pictures’ ongoing success.”
Her appointment follows Christopher Casanova joining recently as Head of Content, as Princess Pictures continues to expand its production footprint into feature films, animation and premium drama. The company now has an animation studio in Melbourne as well as the recent acquisition of the Irish animation studio Boulder Media and is about to commence filming on its first live action feature in more than a decade.
