Returning: UEFA Champions League

2024 / 2025 League season kicks off with Milan, Liverpool, Bayern and defending champions Real Madrid.

The UEFA Champions League returns this week with the league phase of the 2024 / 25 season kicking off this Wednesday morning on Stan Sport from 2:40am AEST.

Adam Peacock joins Craig Foster and Mark Bosnich. With over 26 years of sports broadcasting and journalism, he has covered the Asian Cup, AFC Champions League, Premier League, LaLiga and the A-League.

They will cross regularly to English football reporters Mark Pougatch and Semra Hunter, who will be on the ground in Europe.

Match day 1 begins with some blockbuster teams in action, including Liverpool, Bayern and defending champions Real Madrid, fresh off their UEFA Super Cup victory which saw star recruit Kylian Mbappe score on debut.

For the 2024/25 season, viewers will be able to enjoy over 540 matches across all competitions ad-free, live and exclusive on Stan Sport, a 31% increase from the previous season, in addition to an exciting new format with some sweeping changes.

A single 36-team league will replace the group stage, with qualifying clubs no longer playing each opponent twice but instead facing eight different opponents (four at home and four away). This will create huge blockbuster matches between Europe’s top teams in this early phase of competition.

The new format also introduces a “knock-out playoff round”, eliminating the January break and giving more clubs a chance to progress to the final 16.

The UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League competitions will also kick off on Thursday, September 26 and Thursday, October 3 respectively. All eyes will be on Aussie supercoach Ange Postecoglou, who will lead English club Tottenham into a Europa League season with heavy expectations on their shoulders.

Football Zone will again be available for the 2024/25 season on Stan Sport, a fan favourite that ensures viewers see every goal, save and highlight as it happens across all matches simultaneously.
