Rumour: The Twelve Season 3?

Sam Neill-led legal drama looks to be headed back to the bar.

TV Tonight hears whispers of a third season for The Twelve.

The Foxtel / Binge drama from Easy Tiger recently finished its second season on air, filmed in Western Australia.

The second season, which unlike S1 had a storyline not based on the original Belgian drama, tapped into the “circuit court” system which sees judges and lawyers travelling to remote communities.

That opens up the possibility of new stories and new backdrops, although star Sam Neill is considered crucial to the brand.

Executive Producer and Script Producer Sarah Walker recently told TV Reload podcast a third season was in discussion.

“I’m going to say from a personal place, what is anything without Sam Neil? I mean, I love this man. I could honestly sit and listen to him reading anything and just be fascinated because he’s so charming and such a wonderful screen presence,” she said.

“When we first started the plans for Season 2, we didn’t think Sam would come back…. we just didn’t have that on the radar. We were questioning, are there any characters that we want to have back from Season 1 or could you just start fresh? I think we all agreed that you could have started fresh in the second season.

“I think now that we’ve had Sam back, and thankfully he did come back because he adds so much to it, I would hate to go forward without him. I mean, technically it’s possible because you could obviously, since it is an anthology in a sense, you could find yourself in another season with another group of lawyers or even perhaps a prosecutor instead.

“But I would hope that it doesn’t come to that because I think he would be a loss.”

Foxtel’s other upcoming drama projects include Strife, How to Make Gravy and Mix Tape.

Foxtel / Binge and Easy Tiger have been contacted for comment.

  1. Season two was far better than the first, but the slow burn element still kept it from being a cracking watch. Unfortunately, the twist at the end was not quite unforeseen-my household had guessed it a few episodes before the reveal.
Kris McQuade – always great in everything she does.

  2. I believe there was a line in the final episode about Neil’s character potentially becoming a magistrate…I suspect that was planting the seeds for a possible season 3
