With the end of BBC First on Foxtel, subscription platform BritBox has become the new home of titles including Death in Paradise, Call the Midwife, Silent Witness.
All three have a later playout via ABC, at least 12 months after their subscription debut.
But that does mean the upcoming new seasons will be fasttracked on BritBox, especially if their previous season still hasn’t screened on ABC?
BritBox is, for example, adding Silent Witness Seasons 22-25 on October 1st. S26 has screened on ABC but not S27.
How does this impact S28 when it is expected in early 2025?
“BritBox will be adding recent seasons of Silent Witness over the next few months including Seasons 26 and 27. Leading into the territory premiere of Season 28 of Silent Witness in early 2025, all episodes will be available to enjoy on BritBox,” a spokesperson said. “Release timing of Season 28 is yet to be confirmed in all markets.”
BritBox could not yet confirm if upcoming Death in Paradise and Call the Midwife would be fast-tracked, only that the episodes would be Australian premieres.

A bit confused. 7two has been promoting for a week ‘Coming Soon to 7two New Season/s of Call the Midwife.’ Because theyve been showing beginning seasons ie 1,2,3 and 4 up to ep 5, around 4-5 times on Tuesday nights at 7.30pm and later at 12midnight or 1am, Ive been assuming 7two will then be showing s13? Channel 2 has till now been showing current seasons. It took a year for my phone calls to them before we finally got s12 in April. Well over one? year after UK (obviously) and US. They always get it in January or Feb. We here still havent seen on free to air tv season 13. The s14 CS ch 2 normally showed on Boxing Day. I get the feeling that our channel 2 can no longer afford CTM, which is why im assuming 7two will be screening s13. I do know paytv no longer does BBC1.
They will be new to 7TWO but not to television.
Thank you for your reply. Yes, but will 7two be showing s13? Will ch 2 show 13 and or 14? or will s13 and then 14 (after this Christmas) be only via Fetch? I still do not have paytv. I may have to get Britbox – if it does s13, then 14. I will be getting s14 dvd when its due out here. I have1 to 13 on dvd, but like to watch the show on free to air tv for the ratings.
Probably S5 but unsure. Britbox has first run, then ABC then 7TWO.
Is Britbox going to broadcast Casualty in Australia nobody else is screening the series atall now in Australia
I wish they would add the classics… Like Footballers Wives, Bad Girls, Cutting It etc etc!
In the UK, BritBox was retired in favour of rebranding ITV Hub as ITVX, and offering the ability to upgrade to be commercial free. When I was in Scotland last month, there was so much new content on ITVX that we don’t have on BritBox or other services.
Britbox operates in 8 countries across North America, Australia, South Africa and Europe. ITV had their own streaming platform and the BBC had their iPlayer for local markets. ITV decided to concentrate on their own streaming platform and distribution prompting the BBC to buy them out and take over 100% of Britbox, with the deal including some premium ITV content to remaining on Britbox. Britbox will get first run of premium shows, the ABC buys 2nd run right so many, and they are also running BBC Drama channel on Fetch which has older seasons.
