10 recently announced a return to Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation, retitled as Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Gen, which has pleased original host Shaun Micallef.
“I’m looking forward to seeing it. I think it’d be an interesting experience,” he tells TV Tonight. “I like the fact that it still has life, that people feel, that it’s still worthwhile. I haven’t beaten it completely to death. I’m pleased to report that there’s life in the old girl yet.”
The series originally ran on 10 from 2009 – 2012 then on Nine across 2018 – 2019.
The 2025 edition, with a host yet to be announced, will be a battle between Gen X, the Millennials and the Zoomers.
Micallef, who recently wrapped Eve of Destruction for ABC is currently featuring in Origin Odyssey for SBS. and says he has couple of books coming out soon.
“I’ll be around the place sort of banging the drum for them. At the moment, there’s nothing on for next year. I guess I’m waiting to hear back whether there’ll be more Eve of Destruction and we’ll see how this show lands, whether there’s any more Origin Odyssey. But it’s been a good year. I’ve enjoyed it, and I enjoyed doing Time Bandits too. That was great fun.”
Alas Time Bandits, filmed in NZ for Apple TV+ has ended after one season.
“Don’t blame me for that. I always know people are keen to. Certainly, people blame me for Seachange ending, because I was in the final series. But no, I can’t be blamed for this!”

Been meaning to say this, I was quite surprised when they announced they were bringing back Talking About Your Generation (almost as surprised as Big Brother) because when Channel 9 tried to revive it, it flopped (at least Big Brother wasn’t a total flop. I can’t remember but I think the first seasons of Channel 9 and Channel 7’s revivals of it did well, at least much better than Channel 7’s final two seasons)
Why can’t they have 4 panels.. we need the Boomers!
So excited for this as absolutely love TGYH – but I’m crying because now my Gen X is the oldest Generation on the show and how did I get so old…..😂
10 usually select from a small group of names so Grant Denyer hosting, Sam Pang as Gen X, Celia Pacquola as Gen Y and Robert Irwin as Gen Z.
Hahaha, I can totally see this happening
I can definitely see Robert Irwin happening. What about Beau Ryan for Y.
So happy Channel 10 is bringing back TBYG. Loved watching the original series on 10 and I would love to see Shaun come back to host. And maybe bring back Amanda Keller, Charlie Pickering and Josh Thomas if that’s possible.
It will only work with the right host and panel ……
Absolutely!!!! I would love to see Shaun back hosting but don’t think it will happen.
Shaun walked so that Guy Montgomery could run. I loved how chaotic the show got in its original run but times have changed, what was considered chaotic back then may seem more tame today, so we’ll see if Shaun’s still got it. The other thing that was so key was the chemistry between Shaun, Amanda, Charlie and Josh. They all had distinctive personalities and relationships, it was like watching a kooky TV family, so we’ll also see how the new cast plays together.
I’d been wondering who would be the perfect host to take over from Micallef – but you are spot on with Guy Montgomery as the suggestion. He’d be perfect for this show!
Make it happen, 10!
Used to enjoy watching the original TBYG back on 10 and the banter between Shaun Micallef and the guests were fantastic. The day when this show ended in 2012, I was disappointed. But Nine rebooted the show and was never the same, though it was great to see Shaun host the reboot. I was not a fan of the nine version as the sets look too cheap and tacky. But I was happy that it was back on 10. however, we might see a different host.
Shaun was the freaking show. He was the comic vehicle that elevated everybody else. He gave the guests and panelists ample opportunity to shine, yet he was never outclassed, and with the current crop of “comedians”… ugh. Nine’s version was already painfully anaemic (with Shaun providing the only laugh out loud moments). A new version with a new host is doomed to fail.
My only disappointment is that Ten’s original run was removed from iTunes some years ago, as I would have liked to have bought the rest of the series.
I enjoyed Ten’s version too. Wasn’t so fond of Nine’s version, but will give the new one a go.
Loved the original Your Gen on 10 fifteen years ago, was sad not to see it return in 2013 and Nine’s a few years ago was never the same. Chance to get the old group back together again? :)
I’d say not a chance….but just a guess.
The generation categories don’t work for the original crew – Gen X, the Millennials and the Zoomers.
