US crooner and actor Jack Jones, best known as the vocalist on The Love Boat, has died.

US crooner and actor Jack Jones, best known as the vocalist on The Love Boat, has died, aged 86.

“Jack Jones passed away last night at 9:17 pm at Eisenhower Hospital (California) after battling Leukemia for well over 2 years,” hismanagement said in a statement. “He passed peacefully holding hands with his wife Eleonora and his beloved toy poodle – Ivy.”

He became a staple on 1960s and 1970s variety shows, performing on The Dinah Shore Chevy Show, The Ed Sullivan Show, The Andy Williams Show, The Dick Cavett Show, Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, The Carol Burnett Show, The Jerry Lewis Show, American Bandstand, The Dean Martin Show, The Judy Garland Show, The Jack Benny Program, The Steve Allen Show, and Morecambe and Wise in Britain.

He also appeared in a range of television series, such as The Rat Patrol, Police Woman, McMillan & Wife, The Hardy Boys / Nancy Drew Mysteries, Night Court, and of course, The Love Boat.

Movies included Airplane II: The Sequel and 2013’s American Hustle.

He had other hits with Lollipops and Roses, Wives and Lovers and The Impossible Dream.

  1. They replaced his singing voice in the last season of The Love Boat with Dionne Warwick, for reasons best known to the Spelling Company-
    Definitely not the same.

    For those not aware, actor/singer Allan Jones (Showboat 1936, Day At The Races, One Night In The Tropics) was his dad.
