Foxtel breaks up with Gogglebox, but show continues on 10

Foxtel ends association with Gogglebox, but it will remain on 10 with a key cast change.

Gogglebox cast member Isabelle Silbery, along with mum Kerry and baby Ruby, have been culled from the hit show after nine years, she has announced on social media.

She also stated Foxtel has not renewed the show for 2025 but that it will continue in a “new form” on Network 10.

“It’s with a very heavy heart to announce that Mum, Ruby and I will not be returning to Gogglebox in 2025. Foxtel have decided not to renew our beloved show and although the show will continue on Channel 10, the three of us have not been included in its new form,” she wrote.

Foxtel has confirmed it has parted company with the show, while 10 confirmed its future.

A Foxtel spokesperson said, “The TV show about watching people watch TV. Nobody believed in it, but Foxtel did. Since 2015 we have broadcast Gogglebox Australia into our lounge rooms – putting a mirror not only up to Australian television but Australian culture, humour and entertainment. We have laughed, cried and shared many iconic moments together alongside the Gogglebox households.

“As Gogglebox Australia moves onto its next era, we want to thank our partners at Endemol-Shine Australia and every single family that opened their houses to take part in this wonderful adventure.”

Gogglebox was not announced at Foxtel’s recent 2025 Upfront.

A Network 10 spokesperson said, “Next year, there’s only one place to watch Australia’s favourite couch critics. Grab the popcorn and get cosy on the couch, because in 2025 Gogglebox Australia will air exclusively on 10 and 10 Play.”

10 has denied there will be further cast changes moving forward.

Endemol Shine have also been contacted for comment.

  1. I always think it’s pointless having two channels airing the same content . It seemed like a waste of money to have it air on foxrel and then on 10 next day. Same as the royal variety performance that always airs on foxtels UKTV and then on ABC

  2. Nick and Milo were brought on to replace Simon and Adam – but then they came back.
Jad and Matty are now without Sarah Marie
Bob, Kevin and Jared are now without Mia.

We’ve got 4 sets of blokes – and they cull The Silberys?

I think it’s a dumb move but I’d say it’s probably that they wanted more money. There’s gotta be more to that story.

Fine with it being on 10. One less sub to pay for. Something tells me it’ll be behind P+ for a week though.

  3. I’m thinking Foxtel are really only interested in sports content and anything that is required to meet their NEDE quota. Gogglebox isn’t eligible.

With Foxtel losing nearly all their major output deals (with WWE and WBD expected next year), they’re really looking to reposition themselves as a sports streaming business with a few other things attached.

  4. So they are cancelling their most loved, consistently high rating, and most awarding winning show…not to mention HBOMAX starting in Australia, meaning they’ll progressively lose key HBO titles…R.I.P Foxtel / Binge. Nice knowing you.

  5. Surprising move by Foxtel and weird decision by 10 if what they say is true and the Silberry’s are the only ones being culled. To me that sounds like there is more to the story.

Yes the Narrator has to be on the show. It’s not Gogglebox without her.

    1. This has to be the end of Foxtel. They are up for sale with a sports mob highlighted as a bidder. So I guess they are looking to reduce any no sports content.

Funny days when Ch10 can afford a show and Foxtel can’t/wont.

  6. Used to watch religiously (like all of Ten’s 2015-2016 shows when they had a purple patch) when it was a phenomenon, but haven’t in years, would be pre-COVID. Not entirely shocked, surprised it’s Foxtel and not 10 pulling the pin, but glad for the show and crew/talent and fans it’s finding a way to go on. Always loved their family too, the grandma is so sweet :)

  7. Is Foxtel still around? As Simpsons is now exclusive to Disney + what shows of interest are on the pay TV service? Will Gogglebox mainly focus Channel 10 programs?

    1. I’ll let David’s reviews from the past few months answer your question:
      – How to Make Gravy = 5 stars
      – The Day of the Jackal = 5 stars
      – The Penguin = 4.5 stars
      – Sweetpea = 4.5 stars
      – The Twelve = 4 stars
      – Wise Guy = 4 stars

I’ll throw in great seasons of Industry & What We Do in the Shadows on top of that.

  8. As others have said, Foxtel dumping Gogglebox is a bit of a surprise as one would’ve thought this would be just about their highest rating Australian-produced entertainment program. That said, Ten could certainly do with the exclusivity as Gogglebox still rates better than many of their other shows!

Casting wise, it’s probably time for a major refresh but would have selected other households to replace (The Daltons – please tell me that Matt & Holly put on an act for the cameras these days!) before The Silberys. During recent years I’ve gotten the feeling the producers of Gogglebox would prefer a cast of households mostly in the 25-54 demographic, even though older viewers and families with kids can often provide interesting perspectives.

Of course, I agree that Jo Van Es should be kept as the narrator though – she’s great.

I’d also suggest that Gogglebox needs a broader mix of programs to review, rather than mostly relying on the key reality franchises.

  9. Foxtel is going down hill fast.BBC First has gone WWEis going now Gogglebox which is a great show is going for the cost per month you don’t get much value for money apart from being able to pause live tv.

  10. Interesting. It’s definitely due for a cast refresh – families with tweens and older viewers with broader tastes are notably absent. I hope they keep the pace and wisecracking narrator though. I watched the UK version the other day and it’s just so slow and tawdry in comparison.

    1. The UK version has always been my favorite. I have attempted to watch the Australian version but find it actually very boring and not as funny as the UK version. I always found the cast of the Australian version not as good and no one really I was looking forward and seeing. Glad it is having a refresh …..

          1. I for one use subtitles as I’m losing my hearing and still waiting for my hearing aids.

  11. Strange move by Foxtel to ditch Gogglebox..I would have thought Gogglebox would have been one of their most popular local shows. But there you go…..

  12. I thought this was one of Foxtel’s top-rated entertainment shows. The Silberys have always been a pleasure to watch, with very hilarious moments over the years. I’d say the cull is money related, cheaper to get new cast members.
