Freevee streaming to close in UK

Changes are afoot abroad for free streaming, but Neighbours looks to be safe.

Amazon will close its ad-supported Freevee streaming service Freevee in the territories where it is available: the U.S., the U.K., Germany and Austria.

But the content will remain free on under a Watch for Free tier on Prime Video.

This means Neighbours, which was recommissioned for Freevee and Network 10, will remain free to audiences in the UK and elsewhere. Viewers will be required to register a free Amazon account.

“We have built Prime Video into a first-stop entertainment destination where customers can personalise their viewing experience by streaming exclusive Prime member entertainment produced by Amazon MGM Studios, licensed movies and series, content from other services as an add-on subscription, live sports, blockbuster movies and series to rent or buy, FAST (free, ad-supported streaming TV) channels and the complete Amazon Freevee content offering.

“To deliver a simpler viewing experience for customers, we have decided to phase out Freevee branding.”

Neighbours has regularly topped Freevee since its 2023 launch, and is now more than half way through the originally ordered 400 episodes.

Actress Lucinda Cowden, recently addressed the show’s future after confirming her departure.

“At the moment at Neighbours, they still don’t know whether they’re being renewed, so I don’t think I’m really at the top of their needs and thoughts because they’ve all got a lot on their plate.”

Other Freevee titles have included Jury Duty, Bosch: Legacy, Alex Rider, Leverage: Redemption and Judy Justice featuring Judge Judy Sheindlin.

Neighbours continues in Australia on 10 and Prime Video.
