More drama on The Block last night led to an uncomfortable exit by one couple, with a distressed Kylie fleeing the site before filming had been completed. Eventually located by producers and husband Brad, she vowed not to return.
All of that contributed to a season high of 1.53m in National TV Audience, with Nine wiping the floor with the competition for a Sunday win.
It more than doubled Fisk (691,000 at 8pm), 7News Spotlight (603,000), Spicks & Specks (348,000 at 7:30pm) and Dessert Masters (331,000).
Later 60 Minutes was 722,000 then Ego: The Michael Gudinski Story (304,000), Plum (270,000) and The Graham Norton Show (217,000).
Nine News pulled 1.12m with a late edition at 357,000.
Seven News won its slot with 1.19m viewers.
ABC News averaged 819,000. Grand Designs Australia (230,000) and I Was Actually There (110,000) followed.
10 News First scores 291,000 then The Sunday Project (231,000), FBI (147,000) and FBI: International (106,000).
On SBS it was SBS World News (190,000 / 124,000), The Gunpowder Plot: Countdown to Treason (184,000) and Caral: Sacred City In The Andes (106,000).

Loads of old Block fans complain that in recent years there is not enough building or construction on the show, and the ‘drama’ has hijacked the format. But what else can the producers do? YouTube and social media is choc-full of ‘how to’ videos from all around the world, The Block had to adapt and evolve or become irrelevant. And, well, it continues to rate brilliantly when most of the imported formats struggle to survive.
I don’t know how we could ever judge Australia’s TV GOAT; longevity, accumulated ratings, number of people employed, money generated, overseas sales… I dunno, but The Block would have to come close.
(Apologise David if you’ve already done a feature on The Aussie TV GOAT…)
All good, I recently did a yarn on top formats and it made the list.
The comment section alone shows The Block is the 2024 version of a watercooler show. It says so so so much about the strength of the brand Nine has built up over the years but also the utter dismal failure of the Seven and Ten networks to program appropriately or give audiences an alternative superior show to The Block. When it comes to taking on The Block, Seven and Ten are no irrelevant, no hope and no ideas as to what to do so they just give up. Same with when MAFS is on. It’s why these ratings posts aren’t interesting anymore
I agree that life is always more interesting when there is healthy competition, but I do go to some trouble to file on all networks and key primetime shows, right down to SBS obscure titles.
And it’s appreciated very much. Can’t you tell I’m one of those annoying types that say something is boring but regularly read every word? I’m glad you understood my point though, the lack of competition is undesirable.
Absolutely disgusting
I for one will not be watching again
I’ve watched since season 1
The last few years have been a bloody soapie
There is no building
All the contestants do is shop style and drink
How is someone allowed on a building site after drinking all night?
The Block has turned to shit and I have lost respect for Scotty Shelley and the rest of the crew
Channel 9 should be ashamed. Playing with peoples lives
I hope people stop watching
After all it’s not what it used to be
It’s important to note that in its glory days MKR having ‘drama’ gave it an initial big bump, then when it became a whole season component of the show in the following seasons it ended its dominance as a ratings juggernaut. Beware not to make ‘drama’ a regular feature …..
I think I’ve watched every episode of every season except for this one where I haven’t even watched 10 minutes!
All I know about this drama is what I read online and it seems to me that this woman is copping a lot of flack because her husband along with one of the other contestants. Everyone seems to be trashing this woman online when they should be calling out the husband/partner and the other woman involved. To me it seems like she got cheated on and now everyone hates her and for some reason don’t talk about the culprits
No there is a lot more to her than just the ‘cheating’ scandal. She has been this seasons bad guy basically from the start. Nasty to builders and architect at the beginning and then the new girls in house 1 when they came on to take over from the couple who left. She hates any criticism that is given to their house. Off course it is all in the editing but I guess if she says it and does it, can’t blame it all on editing. I personally think it is all attention seeking.
How can you comment on how Kylie has been targeted? You state you haven’t even watched this season? So how can you have an opinion?
