What if industry leaders were sent to Big Brother’s White Room?

It's a fine line between industry think tank and Reality TV torture chamber.

This week industry leaders were forced to hand over their phones, passports and all worldly possessions before being banished to a White Room as part of Big Brother‘s latest experiment….

Well, not really, but the setting for Screen Producers Australia PRISM think tank looks starkly like the dystopian ‘torture chamber’ room seen in previous incarnations of Big Brother.

The White Room first appeared in 2007’s Big Brother when four intruders were mentally tested by sheer boredom and then offered cash amounts to take the money and run, rather than wait it out to see who would eventually enter the house as a legit contestant. It only took $750 for the first to crack.

It was reintroduced in 2020 when two eliminated contestants where banished to the space with no mental stimulation, but offered rising amounts of cash or the chance to re-enter the house. This time it took some $15,000 for one to crack.

There was no money on offer in SPA’s PRISM forum this week, no red buzzers, and no eliminations.

Instead representatives from the Australian Writers Guild, Screen Australia, Australian National University, Australian Association of Voice Actors and production companies addressed the way forward with AI.

Big Brother is still watching, it seems.

  1. Talking about Big Brother, the second ITV UK series finishes tonight (tomorrow morning AEDT). I hope the Endemol Shine and 10 execs are taking notes. It’s a great series. Back to basics, one hour daily show and one hour discussion show (except Saturday), plus live streaming.
