Charlie Pickering, Zan Rowe and Concetta Caristo will host ABC’s New Year Eve broadcast live from the Sydney Opera House’s Northern Boardwalk, to welcome 2025.
ABC’s Head of Arts, Music and Events, Kath Earle, said: “NYE is a night that has it all – fireworks, live music, stunning visuals, spectacular lighting, and the best entertainment – and we love working together with our partner City of Sydney to bring this celebration to people across Australia and all around the world.”
A live performance and beautiful animations projected on the Harbour Bridge will combine for the Calling Country performance, curated by triple j Blak Out host, Nooky. The original song will call for Australians to move forward, together, leading with heart, and capture the spirit of Barangaroo – a Cammeraygal fisherwomen whose story has shaped Australian culture across generations. The song will lead into the 9pm Calling Country fireworks.
From 9.10pm our audience has front row seats to the New Year’s Eve concert featuring an impressive lineup of artists including Australian supergroup Fanning Dempsey National Park (Bernard Fanning and Paul Dempsey), the Queen of New Year’s Eve Casey Donovan, 2024’s number one hit maker Cyril, Korean-Australian rap crew 1300, 2024 ARIA Awards Best Hip Hop / Rap Release winner Nooky of 3%, American country music powerhouse Randy Houser, ARIA nominated rising R&B star Becca Hatch, plus 2024 ARIA Awards Song of the Year winner G Flip.
As part of the celebrations, we will also kick off triple j’s 50th year by featuring some classic Hottest 100 songs and hearing from some iconic triple j hosts.
Then at midnight, the City of Sydney’s the world-famous fireworks display will light up Sydney’s Harbour Bridge, Opera House and surrounds, bidding a dazzling farewell to 2024 and welcoming 2025.
The NYE 2024 concert will broadcast across the entire ABC network including ABC TV and streamed live on ABC iview and across ABC socials.
The concert will also be broadcast on ABC Local Radio, from 9pm AEDT.
International audiences can also tune in to ABC Australia, and the firework displays will be audio described for the vision impaired and available on the ABC listen app.
Tuesday 31 December 2024 from 8.30pm on ABC.

Nothing wrong with a “free” televised concert on New Year’s Eve..it is better than a lot of the rubbish other networks have that are often repeats. People have the option to tune out rather than criticise if they don’t like the line up. There are some people who have no intention of watching anyway because they have other plans. This is uniquely Australian with mostly Australian artists, and people wonder why our music industry is in decline when some people think our own Australian artists are overrated instead of supporting our own music industry then expecting shows to be an extravagant copy of overseas artists performing. The old adage is so true..you can please some of the people some of the time..but..not all the people all the time.
The ABCs had the rights to the New Years Eve Fireworks for about 10 years.
I’m a bit supprised none of the other networks have gotten the rights.
Hasn’t the broadcast of at least the fireworks themselves been controlled by the City of Sydney (who I think tender the broadcast out to an external company who do the feed/s for wider distribution – something among those lines) for about 15 years now? That factor may limit their appeal to other networks.
I want to say it may have been the furore over Ten’s NYE broadcast in 2006-07 which triggered the City of Sydney to take more control over how the world sees the fireworks from 2009-10 onwards (whereas before then, the host broadcaster seemed to get more editorial control), although the passing of time has made those memories a bit blurry so there’s a chance I could be completely misremembering things!
Will rage be following the broadcast having a party mix theme?
Is G Flip contracted to these types of shows. Same old thing every year. The most overrated performer in Australia.
Unless I’m mistaken, G has never performed at an ABC NYE concert. OTOH, Casey Donovan hasn’t missed one.
G Flip won the ARIA Awards Song of the Year, and second place in the 2023 Hottest 100 (and broke the record for most songs in a single year’s countdown). I don’t think they are overrated. Obviously everyone has their own opinion.
G flip performed in 2018 NYE on ABC.
I just wish they brought back the pub quiz, I thought that was the best part of the shows
I know it’s easy to be negative from behind a keyboard but really, can’t we do better than this? Look at the amazing lineup in the US every year. I’m not saying we could match that, but something more interesting that appeals to most people.
