Big Bash League 2024 – 25: guide

Six weeks of cricket competition begins on Seven with commentary ledy by Ricky Ponting, Aaron Finch and Justin Langer.

Big Bash League begins on Seven today at Perth Stadium and continues across six weeks.

The home and away fixture concludes on Sunday, 19 January with a huge match at the MCG between the Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes.

The four-match finals series begins on Tuesday, 21 January with the all-important Final scheduled for Monday, 27 January.

Seven’s commentary team is led by, Ricky Ponting, with Aaron Finch and Justin Langer.

Joining across the season are Sunil Gavaskar, Greg Blewett, Matthew Hayden, Trent Copeland, Callum Ferguson, Damien Fleming, Brad Hodge and Simon Katich.

Sport presenters James Brayshaw, Emma Freedman, Jason Richardson, Erin Holland, Andy Maher and Alister Nicholson will also return to Seven’s coverage. Current stars Chris Green, Glenn Maxwell and Sam Billings will be regulars on Seven’s live and free BBL coverage, while 7News sport reporters Theo Doropoulos and Anna Hay willfeature in their local states.

Seven Network Head of Cricket, Joel Starcevic, said: “Ahead of another epic season of Big Bash, Seven has put together an unbeatable commentary team, which welcomes former Renegades captain Aaron Finch alongside Australia’s biggest names in cricket.

“The world’s best cricket commentator, Ricky Ponting, will headline the action, calling the first four games of the season and setting the tone for a spectacular summer of cricket. He will be joined on night one in Perth by former Scorchers coach and 7Cricket expert, Justin Langer.

“Fans are in for a treat this summer, with Seven bringing back the Toyota Player Mic to bring viewers closer to the action on the field and showcase the personalities of the league’s biggest stars,” he said.

“This season, Seven will also introduce a brand-new BBL graphics package with a dynamic video game-inspired design that we know will resonate with viewers of all ages. Plus, the Power Surge has been a game-changer for the BBL and this year it’s going up a notch, with crowds playing a pivotal role in amplifying the excitement during the in-stadium activations.”

“The summer of cricket is off to a cracking start and we’re only just getting started. With the Women’s Ashes set to start on 12 January before culminating in an epic day/night Test at the MCG, there has truly never been a better summer on Seven and 7plus.”
