Most read stories in 2024
Reality casts, Jeremy Clarkson, Aussie soaps & Seven News changes all drew high traffic -but who would have guessed a doco on warships?

The most read stories on TV Tonight in any given year, are not always the most expected ones…
Nor are they necessarily the “biggest” news events of the year.
Not for the first time, the most traffic went to a story on the Farmer Wants a Wife cast -an equivalent post was also #1 in 2020 and 2021.
Clarkson’s Farm also drew high traffic, although a lot of Prime international users may have been thrown by the post for Nine programming! Oops.
Unexpectedly an obscure warships doco on SBS called Clash of the Titans also pulled in traffic -was it mistaken for a fantasy title?
Aussie soaps also performed well while readers were drawn to classic UK dramas and various stories around Seven News changes, especially the dumping of Sharyn Ghidella.

Do you think some of that traffic comes from overseas audiences thinking the Australian version of those reality shows is their version based on search results? It is an interesting list. Thanks for all your work this year and keeping us all so in the loop with factual, fun and fair coverage. It is a credit to you David!
Thanks very much. Anecdotally, I sense international traffic for some of those drama headlines as they travel through social media (not so much reality). That said, it can be very erratic and not something I have much control over.
Interesting story and stats.
Are you able to tell us what the top 20 most watched shows were in 2024 per cap city or by state? I am interested in the different viewing patterns and I miss reading the detailed ratings, like how Today vs Sunrise did and the News in the East Coast markets vs the West ect.
I would like to know how Sam Armytage/Today rated across her seven days on the East Coast vs Sunrise, she did well PPL 16-39 and there wasn’t much in it PPL 25-54 and she held firm on the current numbers in summer which is good, and I notice they have dropped since the other hosts took over.
Sunrise in general seems to be doing well and getting into the 400’s regularly, but is that their domination in Perth and Adelaide and in regional areas contributing to this? Not sure if you have this info still but it would be great to see some breakdown stats.
In 2024 OzTAM stopped issuing capital city numbers as part of their revamp to media.
Not one mention of The Block or Married at First Sight. I wish TVT readers determined the ratings.
