ABC’s The Newsreader has gone to the Logie Awards, 1989 style.

Production Designer Paddy Reardon, Costume Designer Gypsy Taylor and Make-Up / Hair Designer John Logue are amongst the Werner Films production team which has recreated the event, matching sets and costumes to original footage, intercut by editor Julie-Anne de Ruvo.

The 1989 Logies were held at the Hyatt Grand Ballroom in Melbourne -the exact same space where scenes were replicated. Exteriors were filmed at Pullman Albert Park (home to the 1992 Logies as Radisson President Hotel).

In Episode One of The Newsreader, News at Six star Dale Jennings (Sam Reid) will be nominated for the Gold Logie.

The actual nominees that year were Kylie Minogue, Daryl Somers, Craig McLachlan and Jason Donovon -Somers went on to take the Gold.

  1. Looking forward for the shows return. Glad that newsreader Dale Jennings is “nominated” for the Gold. Am hoping that the actual actors are nominated for real for the Gold in the upcoming 2025 Logies. Fingers crossed.

  2. I hope they recreate the fabulous ‘Golden Logies’ opening number to that year’s ceremony which saw Lorrae Desmond as lead singer, supported by among others soap legends Pat McDonald and Rowenna Wallace.
