Returning: The Wire

HBO's acclaimed drama, frequently dubbed "one of the best TV dramas of all time," returns for its fifth and final season.

the-wireThe Wire‘s fifth and final season is finally returning to Channel Nine.

The award-winning HBO drama will return to late nights in a 11:45pm am timeslot from Tuesday July 7. It was originally slated for May.

The episode “More with Less” screened in the US in January 2008.

Frequently praised as one of the best television series of all time, it is known for paralleling the war on terror through the war on drugs. Each season focuses on a different facet of the city of Baltimore.

Season 5 focuses on the media and media consumption at The Baltimore Sun. It looks at the media’s role in addressing – or failing to address – political, economic and social realities depicted over the course of the series. It dissects “what stories get told and what don’t and why it is that things stay the same.”

Meanwhile the ABC is also said to be acquiring re-screening rights to the drama, just as it purchased The West Wing, though no airdate is yet announced.
