Kerri-Anne Kennerley got the backing of Nine boss David Gyngell yesterday amid speculation that Catriona Rowntree was hedging for her job.

The Daily Telegraph suggests that Rowntree, who recently became a new mum, is looking for another role with the network that puts an end to her Getaway globetrotting.

While life as a travel reporter sounds glamorous the truth is a lot unkinder.

Kennerley said yesterday, “She’s just one of a number of people who want the job.

“I am not out of contract, [Nine bosses] renamed the show after me and have spent quite a lot of money on it. I would think it unlikely.”

Earlier this year the show was renamed from Mornings with Kerri-Anne to simply, Kerri-Anne, while Today producer Tom Malone came on board to help make the show a more natural companion piece to its lead-in.

Yesterday Gyngell gave Kennerley his seal of approval.

“KAK is not only very good television but she turns a profit. They are the first two prerequisites of success in this game. So she’s here to stay. Full stop,” he said.

Last year KAK celebrated her 1500th show on Nine.

  4. KAK is a legend, a true professional. The lady has class. May she continue her success for many years to come. Oh yes and how about a logie????????? She deserves one.

  5. Id rather see repeats of ‘THIS Afternoon’ on than CR. I’m sorry but she has been too over exposed. Perhaps a couple of years being warehoused will do CR some good.

  6. KAK may be a lot of things, but a pushover she ain’t!!!! Someone at the tele obviously has a bone to pick with Kak – maybe she didn;t say hello to someone at the Logies – this is a bizarre item. I can only take KAK in small doses, but she has been on our screens since The Restless Years in 1980, and GMA, etc etc this lady is not going anywhere in a hurry, certainly not for the likes of CR. I’d rather put stuffing in my ears and watch Jeanne Little instead. KAK for a Logie – she deserves one!

  7. I think Kennerley is a more respectable person than Rowntree. Rowntree even has a hate group on Facebook where as Kennerley doesn’t evoke that sort of hatred. She was great on Wonder World and the early years of Getaway, but her likability has dwindled, especially since the Surprise Surprise Gotcha controversy with Ben Dark, and more recently, the Rowntree baby clothing range product recalls.

  8. I’d like to see this, just to find out how long Catriona would last hosting her own show. My guess is not long! She’s one of my least liked personalities on television.

    As attractive as it is to see you relegated to Daytime TV where most won’t have to put up with your annunciation, KAK is a daytime TV legend.

  14. Be rest assured Mr Gyngell, anything with Ms Rowntree in it will Not be watched by this house. So keeping KAK there is a good idea… Rowntree needs to retire or go work in a travel agency. She has experience in that now.

  15. Can you imagine how long CR would last on air?KAK has shown time and again that she has a loyal following (apart from “Greed” which i thought was good).
    Getaway is an ensemble show & is not carried by one person,so they would have to start out by having her fill in first.
    But i guess now she has the family & has probably seen everything she could possibly want to see at least 3 times,wants to find a homebase.
    Well channel nine could start a new afternoon magazine show….oh that’s right,been there done that.
