Aussie showcase at MIPTV

The Secret River, Sammy J & Randy and Struggle Street on show in Cannes, France.

This week Australian television executives and producers have descended upon Cannes, France, for the annual MIPTV market.

The four day event will see more than 1600 companies from over 100 countries hoping to make deals on content with over 3,800 buyers.

Aussie TV Programmers are all on the look for new titles and formats to bring home to audiences.

Australian production companies are also spruiking their wares, and this showreel from Screen Australia gives us a first glimpse of some upcoming shows including The Secret River and Sammy J and Randy in Ricketts Lane coming to ABC, plus Struggle Street on SBS.

Amongst this batch of titles, The Secret River is the pick of the bunch. Not all of them may have attached broadcasters.

Meanwhile the event will also feature the worldwide premiere of Texas Rising, an 8-hour miniseries by A&E and ITV Studios that details the Texas Revolution and the rise of the Texas Rangers.

It stars Chad Michael Murray, Bill Paxton, Brendan Fraser, Ray Liotta, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Olivier Martinez, Robert Knepper, Rob Morrow and Kris Kristofferson (and is that Aussie Damon Herriman?). It is directed by two-time Oscar-nominated director Roland Joffé (The Killing Fields, The Mission).
